What's the Odometer Reading on your Daily Driver?

The apricot BMW just turned over 97,000 miles this weekend, which isn't bad for a 14 year-old car. It still looks pristine other than a couple of door dings and a mysterious dimple on top of the trunk.

What's your vehicle got, and how many miles can a vehicle have before you start thinking about selling it?

But, that is all anecdotal. Now, anecdotal evidence is not always wrong. However, it provides no ground to stand on when trying to say yes or no is this a good vehicle. There is enough data out there to support which vehicles are good or bad by looking at vehicle lines, or in this case motors, as a whole.

The 3.7, 4.7, and even the 5.7 Chrysler motors have had lots of issues, not only is the design bad, but because of the design, they are prone to failure. The rule of thumb with Chryslers is that if it ends in a 7, stay away.

Chrysler screwed up when they stopped producing the 4.0. Ask Wrangler guys~

As for my top 3 motors, that is all anecdotal and not based on any stat line, I just know from many years in this business what motors consumers desperately want, and what they want to stay away from. There are lots of good motors out there. There are even more bad ones.
Great, so I've got that to look forward to....

The 4.0L wasn't even a Chrysler engine. They inherited it from AMC. Chrysler did upgrade the electronics and ignition, though.

As for why it went away, I found this quote:

Quote:
The reasons the 4.0L went away was due mainly to age of the manufacturing tooling, which was worn out. The long stroke made it harder to clean up the emissions of NOx, and NIH (“Not Invented Here”), in my opinion, also reared its head. To completely retool would have cost as much (almost) as the 3.7L V6 did, and the Dodges were going to use the 3.7 as a base engine. Logically, the engine group did what they were told to satisfy the dealers....“Make a modern engine, and junk the old ones.” This statement is my opinion, based on conversations at the time.
