I think you could put all of the leagues top 15 QB's on Seattle's team and 95% of them would be in the SB last year.

vs Saints-9/18, 103 passing yards, 0 TD/0 INT, 50% completion percentage
vs 49ers-18/25, 215 passing yards, 2 TD's/0 INT, 64% completion percentage

Seattle could have basically had Chase Daniel at QB vs the Saints and still won that game.

Hell, look at how terrible Russell Wilson was in his last 4 games of the regular season. 4 TD's to 3 INT's? If that was Alex this board would have been calling for his head.

Already established that Wilson was basically non-existent vs the Saints in the playoff game. Add in the turnovers, 49ers injuries, tremendous homefield advantage and Kaepernick's horrible decisions and there ya go.

you don't need the best QB in the league when you have the best defense in the league with the most takeaways and a top 5 rushing attack.

It's frustrating. They are probably a Wade Phillips, Desean Jackson, and 1st round WR/TE away from being the 3rd favorite team in the AFC to get to the SB. All moves that possibly could have been made.

If the reason Alex Smith didnt sign an extension this offseason was because he is asking for an unreasonable amount (Jay Cutler, Stafford, Ryan, Romo money) then the answer is probably yes.

Like someone else pointed out, having a guy like Geno at less than a million per year is a big difference than the better (in the short term) player that's 30 at over 17 million per year.

I still say that trading for Alex and then drafting a QB like Geno would have been smart, but I'm willing to see how it all plays out.

Geno played some damn good ball in the final month, winning 3 of his last 4 games and being second in the league in total QBR during that stretch. That was on an absolutely terrible NY team, too.

Many here would view the kid differently if he has won the tie breakers for the final playoff spot in the AFC.

to really answer the question we need more information from the Chiefs front office

Is Alex Smith asking for 20 million per?
Are you rebuilding or did this offseason just really get away from you?

Right now, Alex Smith is better than Geno. If we aren't really pushing for a super bowl then 'right now' isn't worth as much.

What are they doing?
