No Bail for S.C. Sex-Assault Suspect Beaten Up by Nephew

A judge on Saturday denied bail for a South Carolina man badly beaten after allegedly trying to sexually assault his nephew's girlfriend during a New Year's party.

William Mattson, 52, is charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree in the alleged assault at a home in Conway, northwest of Myrtle Beach, early New Year's Day, NBC station WMBF reported. Conway police said they were called to the home just before 1 a.m. on a report of an attempted sexual assault, but by the time they arrived, they found Mattson bruised and injured.

The 27-year-old man who beat Mattson told police he briefly left a party, returned to the sound of moaning coming from the bedroom he shares with his girlfriend, then kicked open the door and found Mattson on top of the woman — at which point he beat up his uncle and chased him out of the house, NBC affiliate WCBD reported.

Mattson told officers he was clothed but the woman was naked under some blankets, and they only hugged and kissed, but the 21-year-old woman told authorities the encounter was not consensual, the station reported. Mattson's nephew, who was not identified, was not charged. Conway Police Lt. Selena Small said Saturday that the nephew "was acting in defense of his girlfriend who was being raped." It was not clear if Mattson had an attorney Saturday.

I am curious when is a girl too drunk to have sex with? I am sure there are guys(girls for that matter) that have gotten sloppy drunk and did something illegal and have been arrested for it. The fact that you were sloppy drunk doesn't absolve them of anything. They still did it whether they were in their right minds or not. Are we going to start letting people off with the excuse that they were too drunk to make that choice?

Completely unconscious is one thing but I am just curious where the line is drawn?

A lot of circle jerking on this topic about cp defending rapists on this topic. I read through most of it and fail to see much of that going on if at all. Per the story posted on the op it isn't at all clear what happened, except that zombie uncle received a well deserved ass beating for being in a room alone and on top of his nephews naked gf.

Anything past those facts and you are making assumptions on either side of the fence.

Based on this thread, I can start the discussion by saying the line is drawn somewhere before the boyfriend enters the room.

But yeah, that's a good question. At what point does it changed from "lowered inhibitions" to "helpless". Apparently it's somewhere before unconsciousness, but how far?

Seriously. I mean, there is that direct quote from a police officer that says, "girlfriend who was being raped," but beyond that, this is all wild speculation. We need more info before we go off jumping on... I mean, to conclusions.

Do you know what assume spells? And one more thing, the topic has dove into how drunk a girl can be to consent, which is an interesting topic, but given the information in the poorly written story (which was my point the whole time) we don't even know if the gf actually partook.

No worries though Sherlock, we don't need any further information, lock the ****er up for life. You'd make a fine juror.
