I remember growing up, knowing that I'd work on the 52nd floor of a high rise building in downtown Tokyo making decisions that would control everybody's lives during the day, then spending every night wining and dining with supermodels until 3am where I'd pound four of them at a time until there was a crack in the floor.

That didn't work out, exactly. But I have eked out a pleasant existence nonetheless, but it does mean that occasionally, I am in on a Friday night.

So, I've opened the bar for you guys. I've got every drink you wish behind the bar. Come on in and relax, shoot the shit, and tell us what's going on. You've got to tell me what you want to drink, however.

I've been LOVING java stouts recently. There's a java stout made by the Santa Fe Brewing Company, and I adore it. I'm about two-deep right now. The worst thing about it, and really the only bad thing about it, is the taste in my mouth when I wake up in the morning.

The most mind boggling one hqppened in June when she quit her job because her boyfriend "Had her back." The relationship lasted like 2 more weeks. And she just walked out so shes not rehireable.

It is statistically impossible to recombine the same genetic material and come up woth 2 more different results.

I'm like a weird ****ed up hipster. I hate on everything that's popular, but not because I like to claim I saw it before it was popular. All the shit I hate on is stuff I haven't bothered to watch.

I was in High School when they started coming out with Lord of the Rings movies. Never read the books before that. As soon as Fellowship comes out, everybody in school starts reading the books.

My friends said, "SNR, you'd ****ing love Lord of the Rings." I said, "Well, I'll go watch the movie then."

"NOOOOO U CANT DO THAT UR DOIN IT RON READ TEH BOOX!"

So I'm supposed to consume this media that I'll love, but I don't want to be another clueless asshole who's only reading the books because Peter Jackson told them to. And I can't watch the movies until I do so?

I still haven't read the ****ing books, and I probably never will. I finally saw all the movies because my wife made me watch them with her. Once through. I couldn't even ****ing tell you what happens in the plots.

And since then, it's kind of the same thing with other stuff. If you want to recommend something to me, you have to do it in a very specific way. You have to actually RECOMMEND it.

If you say, "**** OMG YOU GOTTA WATCH THIS SHIT RITE NAO" I'm not going to do it. I can't bring myself to it.

Breaking Bad has just about been ruined because of every stupid asshole with an opinion about television and drama. Guess what? I don't HAVE to watch shit. It's really ****ing good? How about you not be a putrid little ****face next time and quit acting like I have AIDS and the only cure is to watch all of Breaking Bad.

Some conversation topics that've crossed my mind recently:

(a.) **** every person that doesn't think "Man of Steel" isn't a really good movie. I'll admit some occasional logical holes in it, and the Lois/Superman romance is undercooked, but the movie is an absolute delight. It features by FAR the best battles in any Superman movie, and explores angles no other Superman movie has ever attempted. I love it.

(b.) I have absolutely no idea how the Seahawks don't go 19-0. That's a 19-0 team, barring any tragic injuries to Russell Wilson or Earl Thomas, who are by far the two most important players on that team. I think the 49ers have the best chance at picking off a win, but I think it's far more likely that the Seahawks repeat the feat of the 2006 Patriots and go 18-0 with a Super Bowl berth, where they'll probably face the Denver Mannings again.


(c.) I've been reading too much recently. I've burned through like four books in three weeks. So I'm going to save my attention span (and my wallet) by reading gigantic books, at least 900 pages. I started with Battlefield Earth by Ron L. Hubbard, because I was told it was a breezy delight. But instead, it ended up being the worst written "adult fiction" book I've ever read. Holy shit it was horribly written.

So now I'm onto Alexander Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo" -- I just started it but it is already very vividly written. I really like it. No spoilers, please. Assholes.

(c.) I've also been reading some epistemology recently, and I think the adverbial theory of perception is the most logically impregnable. Adverbial theory states that all we observe may or may not be real -- but we can at least accurately describe our observations by saying that our observations can be described by what we're observing. That sounds like a logical circle, but it's really not. When I perceive a beautiful, blue lake, I may or may not be seeing an actual blue lake, as there's just no way we can know. But we can know that we are perceiving in a "beautiful, blue lake"-y kind of way, and that's the most perfect and logically consistent method of describing our perceptions as there is.

Count of Monte Cristo was draggy. The best Dumas book is of course, The Three Musketeers. A real gem of a book. I think there are over 6000 exclamation points used in that book. Trust me, it is a GREAT read. Well, I never read "The Man in the Iron Mask" or "The Corsican Brothers", so there's that, but the best Dumas' book I ever read was "The Three Musketeers".

Factoids:

Alexandre Dumas was the son of Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, a Marshall of France, one of Napoleon Bonaparte's Marshalls. Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was the first black Brigadier General in French military history. Napoleon didn't give a crap what color you were as long as you were courageous and kicked ass. Well, he was really mixed race, having a French nobleman for a father and a black slave for a mother.

Anyway, the writer Alexander Dumas did not actually write the novels attributed to him. Not directly. He had a studio where he would develop the plots and characters and then his staff would actually do the hard work of mechanically writing the prose and dialogue, subject to his revision and editing. By this way he could churn out far more stories than had he to write them all himself. So you are not really reading his writing in most cases, per se.
