The draft absolutely is a crap shoot most of the time. Just look at Tom Brady and Antonio Brown as prime examples last day picks that turn into HOFers. Never know what you can find.

No team takes a running back in the 3rd round with the "expectation" that he'll be a starter.

If the running back was thought of as a starter, he'd go way sooner than the 3rd, especially the late 3rd as a Comp pick.

Davis could probably start on half a dozen teams right now. He's not a bust, it's just the Chiefs have a glut of talent at the position. He's a serviceable player which is what you expect out a third round pick.

He also is a big reason why we won the Houston playoff game, a big reason we were even in contention for the playoffs 2 years ago, and he should have been a big reason why we won the Indy playoff game.

You don't even know if the Chiefs intended Charles to be an every down back or if it was a happy accident. Maybe they expected him to be a 10-carry a game speed back. At the time, the Chiefs seemed set on LJ as the starter and Kolby Smith as the future starter. The 3rd round is perfectly reasonable for a rotational RB. Hell, there were many on CP who wanted CJ Spiller in 2010 in the FIRST round, even with Jamaal as a clear star in the making.

The semantic hangup is, you're implying he's a bust because the Chiefs wanted him to start and he didn't. When in fact, maybe they expected him to be quality depth all along and he fulfilled that role fine.

Well yeah... realizing that the Chiefs have maybe the best trio of RBs in the NFL. Knile not beating those guys out isn't necessarily a reflection of him sucking. It's a reflection of Charles, Ware, West being really damn good.

i remember when i still watched college games, seeing charles run. it was amazing how agile he was as a RB. and thought how good is he going to be. he was the polar opposite of AP, but knew he could be more than serviceable. if i were the gm that year, i would have drafted him at least in the second. without looking at that years draft i would even say first.
