Im pretty happy about this. Jenkins offered nothing aside from a would-be big play that ended with him surrendering a sure TD by running out of bounds of his own volition.

Avant knows the offense, and moreover, is pretty damned sure handed. Id really like to see what the details of his signing are, but I have to believe that this just made the offense better. Hell, he cant be any worse than AJ Jenkins at worst.

It would be great to have another receiver out on the field that could compliment Bowe, and perhaps even take some of the attention off of him. He should fit right into this offense and hopefully be able to contribute against the Broncos.

If anything it will be refreshing to see a WR that actually catches passes that Alex puts right on him.

Hater...Avant has been playing for 8 years.

I went to the Panthers forum..there is a 30 page thread about them cutting him. Said they weren't using him correctly...seems like they were pissed.

Plenty of awesome route runners who didn't cut it

We're not talking here about a guy who will become a great receiver. We're talking about a slot receiver who will get a lot of looks underneath or as a check down option, and that whereas Hemingway you only want to throw it to him when he's wide open, with Avant, you have so many types of passes you can throw to him and you don't have as much need for separation.

Of course if he's lost all of it and is constantly draped, sure, he does us no good. But unlike Hemingway, he doesn't have to be wide open to get the ball.

So we're going from bitching about how McCluster dropped a wide open gimme 15-yard out that would have allowed him to waltz in for a TD to the Chiefs needing a WR who will make one-handed grabs on Alex Smith's bad throws?

That's why we're bringing in Avant? To be there for the 50/50 one-handed catches that won't get thrown anyway because Alex Smith never ****ing throws those routes?

Avant might have played slow because he was learning to run different types of routes with different adjustments than what he was used to in the WCO.

I don't have hopes for anything spectacular by any stretch, just a dependable guy to throw to on 3rd and 4 that helps move the chains and keeps opposing quarterbacks on the sideline.

A veteran that should help this extremely young position group refine their technique down the stretch and help be a leader.
