Sleep apnea. Anyone here?

The wife says I quit breathing whilst asleep. Yes, I snore but give a crap. We all do.

I just noticed this today when I was trying to take a nap. I kept waking up with a snort and out of breath!

I am 51 aged, 5'8", 180 lbs. I try and eat healthy. I don't get enough exercise, I have high bp and am taking cholestoral crap meds, drink too much et. al.

I did a sleep test 10 yrs ago with no bad results. I am thinking with age, things have changed. I seem to be tried all the time. I put it down as age, work etc.

I don't want to do the "C-Pap" machine, or cut out my uvula (not vulva). I was going to look into the mouth piece thingie that holds out your lower jaw?

I will probably do another sleep test, but think this time they will say I have a problem. Again, don't want to be hooked up to a machine at night (C-Pap).

Has anyone been through this and what was the best solution.

I've got a husband/wife acquaintance, both of whom are CPAP users. The woman uses her's religiously. The man barely uses his. Even after years. Still complains of being tired.
My best friend eventually opted for some sort of sinus surgery to deal with his. He absolutely could no deal with the mask or any other appliances he tried.

Reading helps to relax. Masturbation is a tranquilizer shot!

Helps me sleep like a kid again but I do get tired of the strap marks on my face.
I had both. The mask left the marks. This new one is quite soft (fleeced straps).

That insurance was no joke. I hope nobody here has United Health Care insurance. When asked from my physical therapist what insurance I had, he rolled his eyes and said good luck getting anything from them. Some 100% foreshadowing!

for years we had a TV in our room and I would watch it while we fell asleep. I was always tired, could never fall asleep. TV finally blew up, literally, and we've been without a TV since probably last October. I fall asleep within probably 20 minutes, compared to laying there for hours for years before. I've always had problems falling asleep, even back to probably 5th grade all throughout life. Anxiety etc. I've tried reading as a form of relaxation, but I just can't do it.

having no TV really helps. though, there are still times my mind races and I can't fall or stay asleep. But, comparatively, it's a LOT better now than it has been for most of my life. I would probably benefit from a sleep study of sorts, just given how tired I am all the time. Some mornings i pop right up and feel rested, but those days are few and far between.

Don't worry. When Alex is gone you'll sleep like a baby.

It used to take me a long time to fall asleep. Since CPAP, I'm asleep usually in 5 minutes from when I put on the mask and roll over.

I never had a problem snoring (unless I was on my back but I'm a side sleeper) or sleeping until about a year ago. After about 6 months of loud snoring and being tired during the day a lot no matter what position I was in I bit the bullet and had a sleep study done. Turns out I developed sleep apnea. Put me on a CPAP back in March and it's made a world of difference. Blood pressure has come down significantly and I sleep so much better. Have lost 25 pounds since and really think the weight gain had a lot to do with it since the rare time I go without it I've been told I don't snore anymore. I feel 10 years younger. I'm sure the results are different for everyone but it's been life changing for me. I don't like sleeping without it now.
