Darius Byrd/Eric Berry Tandem Possible

Reports circulating about Chiefs having an interest in Jarius Byrd after Bills wont retain him. Imagine this and a top WR 1st round?
Sounds good to me if it can be done.

After looking at all the options, I think signing Byrd and drafting a WR is probably the best option right now.

Those are the two biggest holes.

In the later rounds you grab the best player and whatever position. We can always use depth everywhere.

That's why I said "future/depth".

I think we have positions of need at CB and OLB in the very near future, urgent enough that we should probably start looking at addressing them now...

Yep, we are not a young defense. we need to be drafting for the future in several areas. Especially if the Chiefs are not in a 'win now' mode then many of our better players on defense won't be around for the next window.

I don't understand why everybody is so concerned about the cap. We have money now and the cap increases each year for the foreseeable future by a considerable amount. Probably not the best idea to put 15-20 million alone at safety, but it's not like we're cap starved right now. Certain players will probably be cut regardless next year (Smith, Fasano to name two). I think we're in good shape to at least make one big signing this year

now is the time to go all in IMO. the chiefs have a bad ass core of players only missing a few pieces to be considered a real threat. our front 7 has been one of the best in the league. berry and byrd would make for the best safety duo in the league. shit i'd let catapano/bailey split reps at end, pick up a solid ILB, and draft anther CB, and pass rusher. if it goes how i'm thinking it goes, the defense plays even nastier for an entire season than they did the first 9 games last year. with the promise the o showed towards the end of the season, they could make a serious run at the SB.

This is the advantage of having Alex Smith instead of Peyton manning. We can sign other needs.

His response?

“Brandon? No,” Reid recently said with laugh. “Probably not at safety, no. I mean, you know, he's a Pro Bowl cornerback.”

So there you go. Now, this doesn’t mean the Chiefs won’t be looking to upgrade their cornerback play, because I’m quite sure they will. But it appears that for now, Flowers is seen as part of the solution, not part of the problem.

No we apparently need 15 all pros.
