ChiefsPlanet Minor change in philosophy - Page 2

Back when I joined ChiefsPlanet, new users could pretty much register, confirm their email address, and immediately start posting. That meant that we often got a lot of n00bs during game weeks from opposing fans, for example, because they wanted to jump in and talk about the game.

At some point maybe 3-5 years ago, a change was made in an attempt to keep out recently-banned users and porn spammers that required every new user to be manually approved by a mod before they'd be allowed to post. In concept, this makes a lot of sense. In reality, though, it resulted in large delays between registration and being able to post that ranged from a few hours to more than a week (depending on how often the mods checked the queue and went through everyone).

As an experiment, starting today we're going back to the old approach. It may not last, but we want to see if we see an uptick in n00b participation. Hopefully it's a change for the better, but we'll see.

Related to that, though, the mods won't be able to keep the "bad guys" from getting into the Planet in the first place, so please use the report function to report anything we should take a close look at. In addition, if you have infraction powers and someone starts spamming porn all over the place, feel free to infract the hell out of them until the mods can get in and take care of it.

No promises it'll stay this way, but we figured we'd give it a try.

I should clarify that the mods will still get a ping anytime someone is detected using multiple accounts, so it's not like this is a free invitation to start mults everywhere.

This board is great because of the opposing fans and the respectful way they've been treated (for the most part) over the years.

The registration restriction literally ruined that.

Remember n00b of the year?

Well think back for the last 3 years and try and name ACTUAL n00bs CP has gotten. They don't exist. So as we've lost members over the past 3 years, we've gained NO ONE to replace them with.

So this is a no-brainer. The Hootie Rule has finally been lifted! Good work, new mods! Make CPGA!

Hilariously, I started this account on a brand new IP at a brand new apartment - so they had no way of knowing this was a mult account.

...and it still sat in pending for days.

Just a terrible way to promote board growth.

I do think that's like a 2008 problem. I don't think that resurfaces anymore now that porn is so much more prevalent today then it was back in the malboro_chiefs day.
