Simply Red got me thinking...
SR is all about good old comfort food... food that brings back memories.

I'm wondering what you ate for lunch in high school? Did you bring your lunch, did you buy the hot lunch, did you go out for something better?

We had the innovative "scramble" system when I started high school. That meant you could get the hot lunch or go to the "deli" for sandwiches, sides and a dessert.

To be honest, I think most of my lunches were from Smaks. They had great burgers and we got out of the building (honestly or not)

Had the school lunch. Actually wasn't bad. On Thursdays they'd have this thing we called turkey slop. All you saw during the lunch periods was teachers running down the hall to the cafeteria to get some. Was always funny.

During football season I was always trying to maintain my weight at around 175, so I ate whatever slop the cafeteria put out that day. Once wrestling season started I had to drop 35 lbs. to get to 140. I would skip lunch, but I did drink a half gallon of water to keep my stomach full.

We had an occasional item called a Mr. Rib that would appear sporadically. It was the same as as a McRib without being lathered in all the sauce.

I know it's gross to think about now - but Olive Loaf on Wonder White w/ miracle whip - when you're hungry - it's really good - Especially Seitz label.

Now on hot lunch Nugget-day - I'd double down for the Nuggs and green gravy w/ whipped potatoes.

Texas Toms was solid - I preferred the Via for straight up hard shelled tacos - they were both very close to me - growing up - close to my house.

Completely agree on Via for tacos and their nacho is an underrated menu item. I also fancied their chicken burrito on occasion. Well proportioned chunks of white meat chicken, at least at the 95th/Antioch location.

I'm unashamed to admit, when I was back in KC for the Royals postseason, I hit up the Texas Tom's on Linwood late night on my way back to the Sheraton and was floored by their chicken sandwich.
