Turnpike dropping new album on October 20th.

Not that I'm keeping track!

Also, they toured about every western state except AZ. I am still ****ing pissed!

Along with the Flying Burrito Brothers, Rick Nelson and Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles created a genre that has been honed to perfection by Nashville and Tony Brown.

It comes across as sterile and phone to me.
yup, and a lot people don't know about that early connection to Ronstadt.

remember the Nelson Brothers?

There's a ton of really great country music right now, but none of it gets played on radio. Here are a few of my current favorites, some of whom have been mentioned in this thread.

Sturgill
Cody Jinks
Whitey Morgan and the 78s
Ward Davis
Turnpike Troubadurs
Whiskey Myers
Blackberry Smoke
Colter Wall
Paul Cauthen
John Moreland
Ryan Bingham
Brent Cobb
Tyler Childers

Who is it that is the core audience that's buying all that garbage? Is it the teenagers like Buehler said?

Chicks. Then the poor saps who are dating them have to like it or they won't get laid.

I suspect most are Trumpers. That band of misfit toys are either country or GWAR (or some shit) fans.

They said it's a huge emerging genre. Any thoughts?

Country music radio is the #2 genre in the US among 18-24 year olds but Country Music purchasers are, on average, 45 year old adults split fairly evenly among men and women (52%-48%).

Rap has surpassed Rock and Country as the overall #1 genre.

To each his own, but rap is awful. Country was good decades ago, but gave up on it in this one.

Alan Jackson, Clint Black, George Jones, Travis Tritt, Ronnie Milsap, Confederate Railroad, Tracey Lawrence, George Strait, Aaron Tippen, Joe Diffie, Hank Jr, and more...

Them's the days I enjoyed some sad, drinking Country tunes. Maybe it's come around these days, but too busy listening to the older stuff when it's music time.

Well said.

"Hick Hop" is amusing. I don't want to listen to it all the time, but once in awhile is OK.

Too much of it has become pop or 'light bro rock' like Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line. They arent really country, but arnt really rock either.

Like Dane said, Nashville knows exactly what they are doing. Plus, they largely market to younger females anymore.
