The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

I'm REALLY hoping that is what is happening here if this does come to pass.

They're timing this just right. We have 8" of snow on the ground and we're getting a blizzard tomorrow. They're going to try to slip it in unnoticed while we're all trying to tunnel out of our homes with no power or internet. ****ing rat bastards.

I think I've said this in the Alex Smith arguments... I really have no problem trading a pick for the guy and still drafting a QB. I don't hate Alex Smith, I think he's exactly the type of guy Reid can run with... and I don't think Alex Smith can dictate terms to everyone at this point either.

A good GM would do pretty much everything possible to improve the QB position, none of this fake competition stuff, legitimately bring in a couple guys and let them battle it out. But I'd agree that I'm skeptical we'll draft a QB in round 1. I think this would indicate Reid and Dorsey's interview with Geno went really poorly, if it is indeed KC.

I hope we get Alex Smith, Geno goes to the Raiders and blows up kicks our ass for 10 years.

We win 5 games next year, have the 7th pick and there isn't a QB available when we pick worht a shit and we don't trade up.

Everything bad that can happen to the Chiefs, I hope does. They can go **** themselves.

Plus nobody said he was being given the starter title. He would need to earn it.

Geno Smith isn't going to make the Raiders a good team. They have way more holes than that.

I'm not trolling or picking fights I'm just trying to have a real Alex Smith discussion. I think he can be every bit as good as Trent Green and I think that's a really fair comparison.

Alex Smith made a lot of strides this year. He was actually throwing it to his receivers (something he struggled with the first Harbaugh year) and outside of 1 horrible game he had a few 'I didn't realize he could do that!' games as well.

He absolutely played like an elite QB @ Arizona for one...and I'm sorry, I realize Jim Harbaugh is a great coach and I realize Smith was surrounded with a SURPLUS of talent but you can't tell me Jim Harbaugh could take Matt Cassel and turn him into what Alex Smith was this year.

and Smith was benched after going 18-19 @ Arizona (a really good pass defense) with 3 TD's and then starting a game @ the Rams (an underrated defense) 8-9 with a TD.

Hey, I really want Geno...but I'm a Chiefs fan so I'm used to this garbage. I can't quit this team so it's not even worth trying.

I'd rather have Geno but 5 years of Trent Green clone isn't the WORST thing that has ever happened to us.

I realize it is frustrating, I'm frustrated. I really hope this isn't true.

and then when it is true...I'm really going to hope we can trade down and still take Geno, even though I realize that will be the biggest pipe dream ever.
