Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Well from a business scholar, the soundtrack was vanilla like most casual action movie fans. But I get what your saying.

It does, yeah. Purposefully so. The depth and intelligence is in how the lyrics support the underlying themes of movements of the scene. Also, some of the songs clash with the scene to be purposefully unsettling. Other songs, I think, provide some slight comic relief in a dark, bleak film. Some of the song choices, like "99 Luftballons," do all three at once.

You can never go wrong with 99 Luftballons; it works for everything.

Watched Priceless, French film with Audrey Tautou. It's a really enjoyable comedy, and well worth a watch.

And Audrey Tautou is SMOKIN' HOT.

I get the whimsical in the face of hopelessness thing, but other than the subtle Tears For Fears song the intelligence was lost on me. Actually it sounded dumbed down for the 'play some Hendrix' big budget action movie guy. Marketing 101. But movies and all their components are rarely interpreted the same. You view the soundtrack as intelligent, and maybe it is, but I view it as the mainstreamification of a semi-underground classic.

My opinion of the soundtrack though, does not take away from the overall greatness of this movie though.

You're so very, very close to understanding the thinking behind the soundtrack. Yes, it is supposed to seem like its "dumbed down" like other big action movie soundtracks. By doing so, the subversive elements of the specific songs get to work through the scene. For example, do you know the lyrics to "All Along the Watchtower?" There is some clever stuff going on behind the song choices.

Saw funny people and it was funny for about half the movie...and it kinda died and was OK at best for the 2nd half.

Worth a rent, but not theater money imo

I do know the lyrics to All Along the Watchtower cuz I've heard it a million times, and the lyrics are appropriate. However, today's movie soundtrack transcends the actual movie. The conversation goes like this, "Todd, let me borrow that Northface pullover bro, Jenny's coming to the party tonight. I got the Smirinof Ice, you bring the Watchmen soundtrack." And in that regard, I feel sorry for the movie.

Actually, after giving it a second chance, my opinion improved a good deal. I still think it was poorly edited and too long, but it's off my eternal suck list.
