There seems to be a lot of confusion over when you are legally required to present ID. I think I've read that courts have determined that you don't have to simply because the police officer asks you to, yet I see a lot of cases where police clearly believe otherwise.

My personal opinion is to just give them your ID. But in this video, I will say it looks like another example of police escalating the situation instead of diffusing it. The use of force wasn't over the top, but I have issues with how quickly it came to that. Sounds like this cop has other issues, plus he appears to be pretty old. Two things that likely played into his decision to "retire".

Yes, its been decided by the SCOTUS. I believe it was the black guy who walked at night in white neighborhoods case. He didn't carry ID and they arrested him.

But, the police obviously have a different interpretation. I personally cooperate with the police any time I'm asked. My life is an open book. Others are not in the same situation.

I don't see any issues with showing an ID as long as the cop has some kind of cause for suspicion.
