He's way better when he's healthy.

I haven't seen him put together a full season since his rookie year, though. He's almost not worth having on your team with how much time he constantly misses every season.

So here we have, a young stud OL in his prime, already a 2-time Pro Bowler, who's severely underpaid (in terms of his production greatly exceeding his pay) and is in a contact year (from a rookie 3rd rd draft pick contract) coming off of a season where a shoulder injury caused him to miss about a quarter of the season....and people are upset he's missing "voluntary" OTA's.

....like this surprised some people? He's doing the smart and safe decision. These OTA workouts don't matter. He's not learning anything new. Training camp matters, 11 on 11 reps matter. If he starts missing a lot of camp days, then is the time to be concerned....but not now.

Houstons weakness was always against the run he improved in that aspect by week 8 of his rookie season. Matthews has been injury prone probably from the roids. If both players were free agents next year and I had to pick one it would be Houston.

Justin Houston is on pace to project out way better than Clay Matthews in a five year sample barring injury. Plus on top of that, NFL contract inflation he is absolutely 4 million better than Matthews in the year 2014. The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league not a what did you do in the year 2010 league.
Houston has Hali playing opposite of him. Matthews has no one to speak of to help him in that front-7.

And you're right on the Pro-bowl thing, I mistakenly counted 5 for Matthews when he has 4 to go along with his 2 All-Pros.

Houston has also gotten virtually all of his sacks against poor competition (7.5 of his sacks alone last year came against 2 rookies who were all of 0-2 games into their NFL careers).

Is he a good player? Yeah. Is he $70 million good, making him the highest paid OLB (not counting Mario Williams) in the league? Hell no. I'd rather let him go if that's what he was asking for. It would be more crippling for this team to pay Houston that kind of money than for them to pay Alex Smith that same kind of money.

Do you know what the LOLB does in a 3-4 defense?

The duties are different than that of your pure weakside passrusher.

Yes, the LOLB does a lot of passrushing. It also has a lot more coverage duties. Hali's days in a Chief uniform are numbered after the 2014 season, and it would be a shame to have to replace Houston as well when the LOLB is actually a bit more difficult to coach up if they don't have prior experience with the position in college.

The LOLB also has to be more solid against the run since the tendency for most offenses is to run to the strong side due to the added blocking from the TE.
(Just sayin')

Not yet he's not. I think most would agree, except for maybe the homers on this board. Even then I bet most would say Mathews is a better all around player.

Dude, seriously are you reeruned? If so, that would explain a lot and I'm sorry for appealing to your reading / comprehension skills. I should have used another method so you could have more easily connected the dots...My bad.

I answered it several times. I cant help it if you have comprehension issues...BTW, it was you who started it when you chimed in," The time is NOW" to my post. Its all on this thread, go back and read for yourself. Oops, there's that whole "comprehension" thing again....Lucky for you its pretty straight forward and I didn't use big words.

yeah I said the time is now, you disagreed and said the chiefs should do it on their schedule.

what does that mean? you have no opinion? if that's the case just .

otherwise say when you think the time is to do their deals, because at this point you are looking like the dumbass you are by implying we should wait until their deals are over to try to resign them and take the chance on them walking in free agency.

they are entering the final year of their contracts SO the time is now to get a deal done if that's what we are going to attempt to do.

and for the nit picking dumbass(you tex) now means prior to the season starting.

kindly go stick your fist back up your ass where it belongs. dumbass
