Any more info you'd like on Austin? Are you only in town for one night? It's worth staying a couple nights. There's a great mix of daytime/nighttime activities here.

I'm there Thursday night through Sunday afternoon. Saturday is the awards show so I'm sure I'll be at the Doubltree that night. It is at the end of September so I'm not sure about the bats and I don't know what the hell is going on that weekend but I've checked four hotels you mentioned and they are sold out for that weekend. Other hotels are wildly expensive that weekend. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I'm thinking of going for the festival they are having. Great thread.

Damn! I just checked and you're right that weekend is a mess for hotels. The Extended Stay America on 6th isn't particularly nice but it's decent and is a FANTASTIC location. Obviously you won't get room service but you'll have a real kitchen at least. Anyway, I checked and they are $140/night that weekend. And of course you can always do the whole priceline name your price tool. If you go 4 stars you likely won't get a deal better than $175 if you go 3.5 stars it's a crap shoot but you'll likely get the Radisson or Doubletree and if you go 3 stars you are looking at the Holiday Inn which isn't convenient for most of downtown but it IS right next to Rainey so that's nice. |

The Longhorns are hosting OK State that Saturday, which could definitely account for some of the hotel congestion especially near campus. Last edited by CleveSteve; 08-14-2015 at 12:16 PM.. |

I booked Extended Stay on 6th. It doesn't look special at all but choices were very limited that weekend. It was $509.04 for three nights and frankly that could have been a lot worse. Thanks for the help!

Awesome! Yeah, it's nothing special but you can't beat the location. You will be right smack dab in the middle of everything except for Rainey St or Eastside 6th which is a long walk or a short Uber/Lyft/cab or pedicab ride. Speaking of pedicabs, they are a nice novelty but you are usually better off using Uber. Ridiculously cheap and easy downtown.

I've been using Uber in Los Angeles since they were five months old, that is definitely what I will be using!
