The Motorcycle Discussion Thread

I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

Appreciate it, and your idea on selling off some of the goodies. Fortunately not in a 'have to' sell situation, just don't ride enough to justify the expense and garage space.

In my sportbike days, I really liked my Dianese leather jacket. And, my Alpine Stars mesh. It was great - warm in the cold, and not bad in the summer. The Alpine Stars jacket had some sort of small padding on the front/chest area that blocked the wind etc. It had your normal armor in the elbows, shoulders and back plate.etc. Though, it's not a full on mesh. The sleeves and back are textile. the front chest is mesh.
Essentially the same jacket but with Cammo where the white is. Also had a few sturdy snaps (not the cheap ones, but the big solid ones) on the sleeves.
Alpinestars T-GP Plus Air Mesh

I also liked my boots. They weren't full on trackboots, but damn close. Surprisingly comfortable on the bike. However, walking around with them required me to undo the velcro. I have these in black. Good price too if I recall - about $110? AXO Primato II

Summer Gloves I have these. In fact, I still ride with them on the Harley. 'Decent' cold protection, and not too hot in the summer.
Alpinestars Octane S-Moto

Overall I'm a fan of Alpine Stars.

If you're into the sports bike gear, take a look at motorcycle closeouts up near Smithville. They've got a good selection and prices are not bad. I got lucky and found a leather conceal-carry vest there that blew away any other local store on quality and price.

Edit: To me, getting to try on the gear before buying is very important... why i don't generally buy online stuff. I've bought helmets that just were flat out uncomfortable, or leather gear that was cheap as shit quality etc online... been bit too many times to keep going that route.

Yep. that's where I got all my stuff.
some good deals to be had; though sometimes limited on sizes. which is expected since I think a lot of there stuff is picked up from retailers that aren't selling (I think).

He's in the People's Republic, but I agree with what you're saying about trying gear on first.

Yeah, the online route is sometimes a gamble. I like to read all the reviews from customers first. Bought some chaps from Leatherup.com last year. I'm now thinking that I'm gonna get some from a local place to replace those. Perhaps I'll give those to my wife.

Speaking of online ordering.....I just ordered these Harley "Greg" boots (made by Wolverine). That's a great price if anyone else is interested.

Cool, thanks. I may go down to cycle gear and try some of that stuff before buying.

I started riding with a Helmet all the time the past couple years and man my neck will start to hurt with the current heavy lid I have.
Anybody have recomendations on good helmets? I like the Modular Flips.

I had the same issue with the Bell Helmet I had, it just set so high on my head that it was acting as a major wind catch on the highway. I was fighting the wind with my neck on long rides... that wore me out more than anything... the key is going as tight as you can on the temple, without it becoming uncomfortable.. but for a guy like me with a massive melon, it's tough.. so I have to find the smallest thing legal.

you have a Power Commander or Fuel Pak?

If you're not planning on changing any internals, cams etc, and don't really care about going to a dyno, I would recommend some sort of fuel enrichment system.

The iEDs are a great alternative to a Power Commander or Fuel Pack. Hell of a lot cheaper and will work for 95% of your riding. There are others out there, but just to give you a reference etc.
http://sales.nightrider.com/XiED-Fue...ement_c_1.html

Also with the HiFlo AC, but sure to look into breather bolts even better a crankcase breather set up for it. It'll save you from having oil mist on your bike.

If I decide to go with a full pipe, I'm getting the Python Throwbacks for my Seventy Two.

Otherwise the 3" Python Mamba slip-ons.

I've seen some kick as custom pipes, but there's no way I'm spending 10% of the price of the bike on pipes. And, a lot of them are very very short. which will sound killer, but I'm not sure I want to sacrifice the power down low.
