Trading major assets and paying $30+ million APY to one player is how to ruin this dynasty

This is a tactic they used with frank clark at the start of the dynasty. They seem to have recovered just fine.

I could see Houston doing something like that for the reasons you stated above. Young QB on a rookie deal plus tons of cap space. They have to strike while the iron is hot and can afford a move like that more than any other contender.

Within 5 years the salary cap will be 350 million. There's gonna be alot of guys making 30 million a year.

Plus with Jefferson you'd have to think the Chiefs are going to win the next two super bowls at least. But I wouldn't sign him if it means not signing Chris Jones. We can do just fine without HOF type WRs, but we won't go anywhere without Jones.

You would have to give up on Jones and likely Sneed, even with the salary cap increase, to make this happen. Burning two players who've been here and fought for the team for one player who just wants a ring isn't the smartest business decision no matter how tempting it may seem. Free Agents, the NFLPA and incoming rookies to the league will notice that I'm pretty sure.

I've seen him do nice things but overall I think we can do better. I don't wish to be the not so nice Dolphins, although they do some nice things.

guys, the #32 pick ain't worth shit in trade value. Nobody wants it. Everybody wants that to BE their first round pick, if they earn it, but nobody is going to trade a superstar for the #32 pick, not even multiples.

Not to mention, if you do this, no Jones, and no Sneed, and perhaps no Bolton/Creed.

It just sends us back to stars and scrubs, and I think the last two years have taught us that having quality depth is very important and a big reason why we won two Superbowls despite our fair share of injury problems.

The issue isn't really 'should we do it' its more 'can we do it'

Because any offer we make is going to be the worst offer of that caliber on the shelf. If we offer something massive like a 2024 1 and 3 and 2025 1 and 2, a team like the Texans will have higher value draft picks in all those spots and no real cap constraints to make them think twice about it.

We lose all ties. AND we have premier QB in the meat of a big money deal. It's orders of magnitude harder for us than it is for a half dozen other teams in this league that can also do it and also don't have the cap constraints we have.

I dunno fellas - this feels like a pipe dream. And frankly, having been on the other side of the Hill trade and seen how well that worked out for us, I'm just not sure how eager I am to 'undo' it.

No, it doesn't.

It makes it a bit tougher on you, but you're gonna have to keep drafting anyway. With the way the Chiefs are winning, alot of these current guys on the team are gonna want to be paid accordingly.

Everyone wants to keep our own free agents, which is smart, but really....it's probably Bolton and Creed maybe and the rest are replaced. They could do a Jefferson deal if they wanted. It would cost a bit more than it would cost the Jags or the Texans, because of our draft spot, but they could do it.

Everyone gets up in arms that "we can't pay this or that, we'll lose this player" when we are currently paying a RT 20 plus million a year and a LG 26. You can drop the LG off and pay Jefferson spreading out the money to hit when Thuney is gone.

The bigger issue is gonna be the picks you'd give up IMO. You need those to keep developing as we lose guys. But we've been so good at hitting on mid and late round guys that you could cover it if you wanted.

The thing with the Hill trade is that they just nailed the picks. If that doesn't happen, or even if it's just a B draft vs the A+ they hit it probably ain't all roses.

The $30 million salary for Jefferson doesn't really seem like the issue. He's undoubtedly a more valuable asset than Hill who carries a similar cap number this year. But how are you going to get him with bottom of the first round picks, without gutting the rest of your drafts?

Are the Vikings really going to trade their most valuable asset for a 27 year old corner when they're looking at a need to rebuild?

It would be 2 first rounders. I don't think you'd have to give more than that because if you do, you aren't even considering it.

Which is also why giving over a ton of picks for one player is not wise. The more picks KC has the more chances they have to get it right.
