Eh, finding replacement level MLBs and Cs is gonna be a hell of a lot easier than finding a HoF level WR.

Losing Bolton and Creed isn't why I'd be reluctant. It'd be losing Bolton, Creed, Sneed and a couple 1st rounders.

I mean that's 1/4 of an NFL starting lineup over the next couple seasons to secure a single player. I just really have a hard time talking myself into that one.

Jefferson is 24, and a 5 year extension would not only land short of his 30s, but like mahomes contract it would look cheap after 3 years when the rest of the market passes it.

Who's entering FA over the next several years that has an argument to re-set the market over Jefferson? Especially when Jefferson and Chase will be looking to set it at the same time.

Beyond them it's...what? Lamb is as close as I can see and isn't he on the same FA timeline as the other 2? I don't think St. Brown would. Or Aiyuk. The rest are guys like Hill, Adams, Kupp and Diggs that I can't see re-setting the market at their respective ages.

Jefferson's likely going to hold the top spot (or near enough as to make no difference) for a very long while.

I'm feeling some irony on this one today.

Justin Jefferson is a great example of how you don't have to have a top 5 pick to get an elite WR. And how, sometimes, you are better off just taking your own stabs at WR rather than trading for an established one.

Hindsight in action, but how much better off are the Bills if they had just drafted Justin Jefferson instead of trading the pick the Vikings used for him on Stafon Diggs?

If the price on Justin Jefferson is two firsts + a third + a fourth + 4/$135M, the opportunity cost seems really high to me.

Wouldn't you be better off spending $25M/year for the next 3 years on Mike Evans and keeping all the other draft capital AND having another $30M to fill out your roster over the next 3 years?

Then Justin Jefferson is going to bend you over a barrel too, demanding more than Tyreek's $30 million per year, and probably saying 32 - 34 per year.

Two #32 picks and a DB we probably aren’t keeping long term? I do that right now before they change their mind.

It would undoubtedly be more than that. Assuming they even pick up the phone, you'd have to add at least a 3rd and probably a 4th or 5th as well since they're 32 overall pick values.

Kinda need those picks for LT (I hear it's a great OT class this year) and Chris Jones insurance

eventually KC is going to have to get serious about finding a replacement for Kelce as our true #1 pass catcher.

And I still feel like the diminishing returns yielded by these teams that went nuts on the WR market should eventually impact the market for them as well.

I don't know how many times we can see teams make huge moves for FA wide receivers and come up short without thinking it's probably not a very good move.

And hell, the pick for player/contract swaps just rarely work out REGARDLESS of position. AJ Brown is as close to a win as I can think of off the top of my head and Brown was worth it for a single season before injuries and maybe being a malcontent did the Eagles in this year. When the coaching/QB wasn't top shelf, the elite WR meant exactly dick.

And when we've had top shelf coaching/QB play, the LACK of an elite WR meant exactly dick.

There are just too many datapoints to suggest this is more flash than substance to ignore them.

Did Rashee Rice die? People just forget that this man averaged 78 receiving yards per game in his last 10 games (counting the playoffs) when we really started getting him incorporated into the gameplan?

That production is over 1,300 yards a year at that pace.

Rice is a great start to the future post Kelce. Plus he can do things Kelce does in the middle of the field. Keep drafting more WR's to help fill that void

Rashee Rice is great.

Justin Jefferson might be a 2k 15 TD guy here. That's pretty tough to find.

But the cost just isn't gonna work out.

Pretty good point by Duncan. Aiyuk, JJ, AJ Brown, DK, Tyreek, St Brown, Moore

None of those guys drafted with a top 20 pick. Neither was Rice, Dell or Puka.

History suggests you don't need high picks to get one

Exactly.

Would he break the receiving records here? Maybe, although I remain skeptical that Mahomes would ever force feed a guy.

But the cost is too much. The days of mortgaging the future for individual players is done until we are looking for the next QB of the franchise, at the earliest.

I'd prefer to not have to pay for ANY top of the market free agent deals at any position. Every time you have to do that, it creates an issue with your overall roster.

If you're going to do second deals on players, it's best to do it on your own guys that you KNOW fit your team's needs and culture.

Big money free agent deals are still a roll of the dice, and often don't move the needle as much as people think. How many Super Bowls has Davante Adams won with the Raiders? Hill with the Dolphins? Diggs with the Bills?

No, I'd much rather invest draft capital in growing our own. If they're good, pay them that second contract, knowing it's a good investment, not hoping.

Thuney's great, but is now overpaid. Taylor is so far, an overpay, but the position was necessary because we'd struck out on drafting one.

I view big money free agents as a necessity when you've been unsuccessful in drafting and developing your own at that position.
