Report: Chiefs leaning towards franchise tagging Sneed

Multiple sources tell me the Chiefs are trending toward using the franchise tag on star corner L'Jarius Sneed.

I'm told while nothing is 100 percent at this stage, the likelihood of Sneed being tagged is "75-80 percent."

Since 2012, there have only been four players hit with the exclusive franchise tag: Drew Brees (2012), Von Miller (2016), Kirk Cousins (2017) and Le'Veon Bell (2017). Teams placing the exclusive franchise tag on another are essentially acknowledging that they know a player would have a huge market and won't run the risk of losing them, while also saying they can't sign a player to an extension.

He's not going to negotiate a contract with a team, the team is then going to negotiate trade compensation with the chiefs, and if that's agreed to, THEN he'll sign the contract with the new team. He's not signing an offer sheet. And no team is going to send one.

I know we need WR’s, but we need some sure things or at least surer. I get Jameson has pedigree, but so did Kadarious Toney and Skyy Moore to some degree. If we are going to trade a star cornerback, I think I’d prefer a pick in return that we can mold into whatever we want to (draft a WR, trade up in the first round, draft another position) rather than another risky proposition at WR. I say that with full confidence that Jameson would be our 2nd best WR almost by default.

The Jags traded Ramsay to the Rams for 2 first rounders and a fourth…I’m not saying we can get a similar compensation but surely we can do better than a 2nd…

This has been gone over 100 times already. Sneed is older, not even close to the same player, has a knee and concussion issues, is the most penalized secondary player in the league and has never been a pro bowler or an all pro. Your looking at something closer to what Slay was traded for. I love Sneed as much as anyone but you have to be realistic.

yeah took me a little bit to see what historical precedence has been. I don't think anyone has ever been compensated with 2, 1st's
