Cris Carter in hot water for telling rookies to "have a fall guy"

This is from last year, but apparently now just coming to light. It was on the NFL's website.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ve-a-fall-guy/

Quote:
Cris Carter urged NFL rookies to have a “fall guy”
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 23, 2015, 4:39 PM EDT

A recent ESPN feature on former 49ers linebacker Chris Borland described Borland as “appalled” by what he heard at the 2014 Rookie Symposium, when a former NFL player told the rookies that they should have a “fall guy” in their crew who would take the blame if they faced legal trouble. What ESPN failed to mention is that the former player who gave that appalling advice was an ESPN employee, Cris Carter.

Although the ESPN feature says that Borland “declined to name” the player, the writers easily could have identified Carter as the source of the comments, because the video of Carter’s presentation at the Rookie Symposium is available at NFL.com.

The presentation went basically how Borland described it in the ESPN feature: Carter told rookies that they should have one friend who will be willing to take the blame if they ever get into trouble. Warren Sapp, onstage along with Carter, agreed.

“If you all got a crew, you got to have a fall guy in the crew,” Carter said. “If you all have a crew, one of those fools got to know, he’s the one going to jail. We’ll get him out.”

Sapp then repeated, “We’ll get him out.”

Those comments didn’t sit well with Borland, and they likely won’t sit well with most people hearing them now. But the NFL apparently didn’t have a problem with what Carter said: His presentation was posted on the league’s own website, and Carter was invited back to speak at this year’s Rookie Symposium.

UPDATE 5:23 p.m. ET: Shortly after we posted this item, NFL.com removed the video.
Someone uploaded a clip of the video with their cell phone. Teddy Bridgewater gets used as the example. I can't believe the NFL had this on their website.

Perhaps, but nobody else seems to have the balls to say anything until you catch a couple of reeruns with their feet in their mouth like the aforementioned Carter and Sapp.

I understand it's big business that's extremely popular and NFL whistle blowers are going to get the same treatment that whistle blowers get associated with in other huge money industries - they are going to get called quacks and loons and agenda driven fringers that are only in it for the money and noteriety.

I'm not a big believer of supporting corporate agenda to the point of having a guy dangling by a rope from a shower head in some cheap motel because he said something that put big business/government in a potential negative light. You obviously buy into that though.

Listen, bud. I wish the world was all butterflies and rainbows like you seem to want it, but the fact of the matter is that it's not. Some of these dummies are going to do something stupid. They just will, no matter how many times they've been told to do the right thing. Is it cool? No. Is it fair? No. But they are athletes that contribute to teams making millions of dollars. Teams are going to want to protect those investments by any means necessary, including some means that might not be of high moral character. That's just the way it is. Like i said, Cris Carter is not telling them anything they haven't heard from their agent or other leaders. He was just dumb enough to do it on camera.

Not true. I stole an issue of Playboy from a convenience store in the mid '90's. It was Sable's first playboy spread and I HAD to see it.

Problem is...there are some people who take all this way too seriously. Kids watching Cris Carter at home will not understand that he's an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about. The NFL loves that nitwit, and think of him as some kind of "redemption son"...but in reality, it sounds like CC hired a fall guy when he got to MN.

It casts his entire persona into a glare of shadowy doubt. I'll bet he still drinks and does coke, after his comments in the video above...
Keep this shit in DC please.

BFD. This is a thing? Really? This is how you know people have it pretty damn good when they can find time to act morally outraged at something like this.

I don't get how "being white" = being over privileged.

I mean, if I were BLACK, I could :
Get a check each month
Go to college for free
get my meals paid for
Have free health insurance

Because I'm white, I not only have to pay for those things for myself...but for a bunch of other people too.

That "white privilege" bullshit is some kind of rhetoric that a sociology professor made up...it doesn't exist.

If anyone is privileged, it's the black folk in America.
Nope, not racist at all.

Now that I think about it, I bet that O.J. Simpson was Cris Carter's fall guy. The timing is roughly right.

Wait a minute. O.J. later went to prison right about the time that Sapp retired. I think they were both using him as their fall guy.

I just find it interesting that Bortland throws Carter under the bus for this (possibly joking, probably not) comment after he retires from the league.

Also, there's nothing particularly shocking about recommending a fall guy. They're useful in all sorts of situations.
