Lemmy might be on his last legs and it sucks

Motorhead icon stops Texas show after 3 songs
Motorhead icon Lemmy Kilmister stopped the band’s show in Texas last night and admitted: “I can’t do it.”

They managed to deliver three tracks before the 69-year-old introduced their track Metropolis, but then told the crowd he couldn’t continue, and led his bandmates off stage at Emo’s in Austin.

It follows his walk-off last week in Salt Lake City, where the band cited the high altitude as the reason behind Lemmy’s inability to breathe. They cancelled the following night’s show in Denver, at an even higher altitude.

Glide reports that the venue house lights went up after the “fatigued and winded” frontman returned to apologise to a generally supportive crowd, who then left in a mood of concern and mild annoyance.

Lemmy has suffered a series of health setbacks in recent years, after having a heart bypass and suffering a haematoma in 2013.

Motorhead released 22nd album Bad Magic this week. They’re scheduled to continue their US tour tonight (September 2) in Texas. The run is set to be followed by dates in Europe and the UK, with a 40th anniversary show at London’s Eventim Apollo on January 29.

Recovery. I didn't even know he was back in LA. The last I knew was that he was in Vegas.

But he was coherent and cool as we were grabbing flour tortillas and chatting.

Makes me very happy to hear that, and (of course) I've never even met the guy. Maybe it's the tenuous Cleveland connection.

I don't get why Keith Richards is considered a "guitar legend". His guitars only have 5 strings because of his exclusive use of open G tuning.

He's never done anything remarkable in terms of his guitar work. He can't even use Clapton's excuse of excellent phrasing.

Lemmy, on the other hand, created a distinctive bass playing style with his use of distortion while playing chords.

Oh well, I'm still making a case against Kurt Cobain to erase the brain washing my daughter's received regarding his "musical genius".

I've never understood it, either. Brian Jones wrote the "best" Rolling Stones songs. Ry Cooder played guitar on their "arguably" best album, which spilled into their following album.

He's a hack.

But then again, so were so many of the other guys from that era. Clapton hasn't ever even come close to his brilliance during the Cream years. Not even close. Beck moved into the Steely Dan territory, then into Fusion with Jan Hammer, then disappeared for the better part of nearly two decades before re-emerging.

For my money, George Harrison and Peter Frampton were the most prolific guitarists to emerge out of the British scene, with Peter Green and Gary Moore closely behind.

And let's not forget the one and only Ritchie Blackmore, who was responsible for the most iconic guitar riff of all time.

Andy Johns, who engineered many of the Stones early sessions, told me directly that without Brian Jones, much of the Stones catalog wouldn't exist.

He also told me that the first time he ever did heroin, Keith Richards convinced him to do it and plunged the needle into his arm.

"Now you're a man", Keith said to him.

When I think of guys playing average "just learned the instrument three weeks ago" guitar, I think of Keith and Kurt.

More about song writing than being a player's player. He wrote his share of great riffs for sure, nobody should think of him as a "god" for playing skill. He was never the best even in his own group. (See Mick Taylor).

You just called Richards a hack....you are piece of work. Get back to me when you write something that lasts 30 years...poser.

You do keyboards for commercials...

You have a laundry list of bad artists you've been friends with though....not surprised. I was actually looking to see if it there were any I respected...nope. Cobain killed Hollywood hair metal...no wonder you hate him...

On a lighter note..Lemmy is a ****ing rock god.....as is Richards. Mad respect...
