Eric Berry

We know what it's going to cost to keep him. Question is he worth the money? Has this defense missed him?

I think there's a noticeable difference without Berry against the run. The pass defense looks similar though.

For a team in cap trouble I don't think Berry is a must re-sign guy.

Let's throw a few names out there. In place of DJ, Rey Maualuga. David Harris. Both younger and probably cheaper.

In place of Berry, Kareem Jackson at CB, Devin McCourty or Nate Allen.

If you wanted 3 guys for around the same price, I bet you could get 2 ILBS (e.g. Harris + Spikes) plus Nate Allen.

So again... if you had $15M to spend, are Berry and DJ necessarily the right 2 guys? Based on talent and ability, the answer is yes, but it's just hard when you don't see a ton of appreciable impact when you take them out of the defense. When we lost Hali and Houston, this defense imploded. THAT is a difference maker.
Considering how often our MLB's miss their fills, which has resulted in a YPC average of 4.8 allowed.. which is bottom 10 in the NFL, I don't see the strength of this argument. We're 23rd against the run and it could be worse.

The REASON our defense appears to be giving up less yards has more to do with the ball control offense KC used in 3 games (two of them wins) than the dominance of the defense. Per play they're not that great.

KC is allowing a QB rating of 97 against them, and that's with one of the best pass rushes in the NFL.

DJ and Berry matter. That's why Andy Reid, who hates running the ball, is trying so hard to control the clock.

I think the holes in our D are obvious and at some point that hole in the middle is going to be exploited for 200 plus rushing yards.

Good post.

I'm thinking Seattle is going to absolutely destroy us in every facet. Idk when we play them though.
