Really enjoyed "Avengers 2". I think I liked it even better than the first one; much in the vein of "Empire Strikes Back" vs. "Star Wars", with the Universe already explained they spent less time talking at each other. Moved along well for the most part, held my interest even at 3 in the morning, furthered the story and prepared for the next film. Even more characters but yet everyone got their lines and their story. I don't agree with the complaints I've heard; the character evolution didn't feel forced, there wasn't too much drama and conflict, the Black Widow and Hulk thing didn't faze me, I didn't feel like they were just using this as a commercial for the next film, none of it. This thing had pretty much everyone in it you can think of (everyone had a couple of minutes of screen time), the jokes were typical for Marvel/Whedon... is it "Gone With The Wind"? No. But you're not gonna find a much better "shut your brain and enjoy superheroes" film.
And I do have to say... this film was MADE to be seen in IMAX 3D on a large screen. None of the 3D felt forced or sickening, and every scene had depth and energy to it that made me say, "Wow, that looks great in 3D". In 2D on a normal-sized screen I probably wouldn't have liked it as much. And, once again, even pregnant, the star of this film (like the first film) is Scarlett's ass. Cobie Smulders is a close second. |

I thought it was pretty good. It had a shit ton of action. Like, ****ing balls, man. It seemed there was some huge showdown every six minutes or so.
Spoiler!
Anyway, cool movie. Can't say I was disappointed although it probably could have been better. |

Are they making two more Avengers then? I hadn't heard.. Well, it's tough to say. For one: I'm not good at guessing shit like that and two: I don't know much about the Infinity Wars comics. I'd imagine they'll need to show Thanos collecting the gems. I don't see them doing much of that in Cap's Civil War story line so I'd guess we'll see most of that in Ragnarok and/or part 1. After that, it'll likely just be a race to take him down before he destroys the earth. Last edited by ThaVirus; 04-30-2015 at 01:58 AM.. |

Marvel's done a great job of making Stark and Banner the super think tanks they'd need to be to take down a guy like Thanos, but still.. Without Reed Richards, they may need more firepower. I'm guessing Doctor Strange and Black Panther could help out a bit on that end. Panther for the brains and tech and Strange just more for the strange.

I do admit that the Hulk/Widow and Hawkeye story lines were the weak parts. But they're also necessary. I think the whole reason those two characters were put in the films in the first place is to stress the humanity that is needed, both on the team and as part of each superpowered superhero, to keep the team grounded. I think it was a conscious decision on Whedon's part to emphasize that without some humanity they're all just superpowered invincibles. And just on a realistic moviemaking level, if you don't give Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson some dialogue and scenes they probably aren't going to do the film.

The Banner/Natasha relationship is sort of the... I don't want to say fatal flaw, because I liked the movie, but it's definitely the movie's biggest problem. It's supposed to be the emotional throughline of the movie, but I didn't buy that the characters would be interested in each other, and didn't think the actors had much chemistry.
The Hawkeye stuff I liked on it's own terms, but I was still disappointed because I prefer the take on the character from the recent solo Hawkeye comic series. |

Just saw it. Really enjoyed it
But...... They never explained how Stark got all his tech back after the end of Iron Man 3. That was odd? Do the Avengers still think Coulson is dead? They never mentioned Coulson at all that I remember?

Well, I'm betting they find out soon. They tied it in with Agents again.

Yea, I saw some of Whedons comments about Agents of Shield. I got the feeling he felt it was a 'necessary evil' and wasn't too thrilled about being tied into it.

Well, I loved it.
The original Avengers had the distinction of being the first film that tied in multiple franchises on a scale that had never been attempted in that medium. However, overall I felt that there were some undeniable problems with the story and character development (at times it felt like they were making it up as they went along - especially at the climax). Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan, but it certainly wasn't a masterpiece. I felt the character development and the story in AOU were undeniably superior to the first Avengers. Honestly, I'm unsure what more anyone could have wanted from a movie of that scale. While some parts of the plot felt rushed, Whedon's announcement of a 3+ hour extended edition should solve many of those problems. |
