It doesnt suck. Maybe there are no elite teams if Denver regresses which they should, but there are also no bottom feeders unless the Chargers really stick it up.

AFCW looks like a group of .500+ teams excluding the Chargers who could fall between 6-8 wins. One of the more competitive divisions.

Realistically

KC 11-5

Now Berry can feel more comfortable with reporting, he doesn't have to worry about his knee getting blown out in the first game of the season again.

And yet most sports publications view the AFC West as the best division in the NFL.

Do you know what division sucks? The AFC East. Even without Tom Brady for 4 games, the Patriots win it.

San Diego at 7-9? No running game, weak offensive line, lost their best safety to the Ravens, LaDarius Green to Pittsburgh, Rivers a year older, questions as to where they'll play in 2017 and so on.

Everything would have to go right for San Diego to 7 games this year, including a WR stepping up opposite Keenan Allen.

It will end this year.

If healthy, the Chargers will easily win the AFC West title because no man in this division can match what Rivers can do with a decent team.

If healthy, the Chargers will field a decent team.

Chargers lose to the Chiefs in the Season opener by 20.

How in the world is that defense going to stop us?

Yes, but the Patriots have pretty much an identical W-L record outside that division as in it, over the past whatever many years.

But yeah, Bills and Dolphins are a mess, and have been for quite a while, and Jets can never seem to put it all together, usually due to QB woes. That said, they've been better than the AFC South on average over the past 10 or so years. The Titans/Jags have been complete jokes for the most part, and the Texans barely any better. Only the Colts haven't sucked, and lately they have also.

Not to rub it in, but a meaningless ESPN poll has one lousy Charger in the top 100 players in teh NFL -- Rivers at 82. That is, uhh, not good.

From the article:
"• The rankings were finalized by NFL writer Chris Burke, who was primarily working off SI’s position-by-position rankings, published earlier this summer. Those rankings were written by Burke, Don Banks, Greg Bedard, Melissa Jacobs, Jacob Feldman, Eric Single and (former SI employee) Doug Farrar. "

I find it difficult to take stock in National sports writers opinions on all 32 NFL teams. They don't have any in depth background regarding the players on each roster or the coaching systems each team has in place.

If I came to you and said "the Patriots suck, all they have is an aging Brady and injury prone Gronk", ,you would probably disregard my opinion because I couldn't even name all of the starting LBs for the Pats.

So who is anyone on this board to speak to the talent that's on the Chargers roster? Sure, I know plenty about the Chiefs but I wouldn't think I know more than SNR or Iowanian and I wouldn't expect either one of them to know the Chargers as well as I do.

Thus, I respectively dismiss your opinion and the national media's opinion based on ignorance.

Sure. How about this then -- the Chargers went 4-12 last year despite being no worse than average in terms of injuries, as a result, they got very high draft picks, but are in dispute with their first round pick (for stupid reasons, btw) you didn't have any extra picks (only one per round in the first few rounds), your offseason was meh, and your head coach is meh. On top of all that, you have the distraction of moving to LA. Really, I don't see much reason for optimism.

The chart below shows injuries. The more to the right, the more man-games your team's players lost. The larger the circle, the more critical the players were (important players being injured results in a larger circle.

The Chargers are a team that could win 10 games if their o-line can stay healthy. When you are on your 4th string center and pulling guys off the street to play guard your running game and offensive line are not going to look good. Rivers covers a lot of warts though.

They got better at o-line, they got better at d-line, they replaced Green with the top TE in the draft and they are finally starting to get depth at places like linebacker and WR.
