Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

One of the only good plays Alex made Sunday and it didn't count. He had happy feet but at least stood in the pocket.

He needs to man up and stay focused on progressions in the pocket instead of panicking. So erratic.
If he keeps taking hits like that there won't be a spleen left for Smitty.

Can't figure out why all our players were catching the turf monster on Sunday. So strange...Harris dropping that pass was just another sign it wasn't our day.

Did you, or did you not, say in the game thread 'blame me guys, I used his full name last week?'

Or was that Daface again and I still can't tell you two apart?

He's never manned up in his entire career. Whether he's permanently scarred from his first few years or whatever, do you really think there's an alternative universe in which he suddenly grows a pair after a decade+?

On pace for a touchdown per game.

All at a million dollars per game.

He wasn't brought here to "man up" shit.

He was brought in to not single-handedly lose games like Cassel did. Don't take chances and just keep the game close, run the clock, maybe let special teams put some bonus points on the board and hope the defense can hold whatever lead they're given.

KC being 1-1 right now is not a bug; it's a design feature.

I more or less agree. Basically you're saying I should direct my hate at having a worse QB than the opponent every week at the management, not the QB himself, right?

Ugh.

Uh. Yeah.

Because, remember, the Chiefs were a 2-14 dumpster fire that had a player go murder/suicide in the parking lot and a fan revolt.*

Reid, Dorsey and Smith came in and got into the playoffs in their first year and haven't done worse than 9-7 to this point. Fans are placated (... well, were, until Donovan dicked up the parking) and there's a reasonable expectation for the team to do no worse than 9-7 this year given they went 11-5 the prior season (or at least that's what I've been told. Whatever)

As Sacc said it last year, this is the "Golden Age" of Chiefs' football. If Sm ith being a game manager operating with the benefit of a defense that doesn't allow more than 21 points on the average keeps the team in contention all the way to the end of the season there is literally no incentive for the FO to do anything better.

It's Martyball all over again. Stay above .500, sneak into the playoffs and maybe make some noise.

It's Martyball.

* Implication being that the same core of players that went 17-15 in the two years prior to 2012 had nothing to do with the play on the field from 2013-onward.

Nope. Others said that and I quoted them sarcastically.
