Just semantics, really. But you go ahead and have your laugh. Just let me know when people can get back on some topic instead of yapping about a bunch of SF fans that they claim to not care about.

I'm certainly not the smarter one for wasting so much time and money on the Chiefs over the past decade, when I clearly should have become a Patriots fan the moment they beat the Rams in the Super Bowl. OTOH, whenever someone says "they're my 2nd team," I can't help but laugh at them a little.

I respect what other teams do and like watching other teams, and I'll pull for certain teams in the postseason, but there's no "2nd team"... outside of the obvious conflict of interest when they play each other ("oh, but I'm always a Chiefs fan first" derp), it's just... weird. I'd do without having a team all together before adopting a new one.
Without criticizing my co-Niner fans, I don't quite see that either (at least for myself.)

I am here because Alex was a long time Niners QB, who created a huge controversy, and left the Niners without really ever answering the question about his ceiling. Personally, I would like to see him succeed with his new team, and I can't help but root for the Chiefs right now. (It was the same way when Joe was here.)

But I am definitely not a Chiefs fan.

I live in LA and we have no team of our own. In the late 70s I started following Joe Montana at Notre Dame.when he went to the 49ers I started watching them. When Joe left the Niners I followed him to KC. The time he spent with KC I went to every single KC game including the playoffs to see him play. As I was a part of that home crowd i developed a loyalty to the Chiefs that will never go away. Because they gave Joe a chance to go out with a winning team. Over the years KC has retreaded a lot of ex 49ers. I appreciate that.
I'll admit I couldn't stand Alex for years. He was like a bad rash that wouldn't go away. But in 2011 when he started winning he became the underdog I liked to cheer for. His coming to KC was alright in my eyes because it was a fresh start for him. And its nice to see my KC family have that passion about their team again.

So yes . There are many of us out there that do support two teams for whatever reason.

Oh, I think you are seeing the true Alex. He is efficient and careful and not very productive. He knows how to stay out of the way of a solid defense and let them win it for him but also knows how to assist them with such as ball security, short passing game, good football IQ.

Help me understand why it matters at all if you have family, know someone or been to a place in order to root for the sports team.

Your defense sucks right now, and has for a while - and as much as you want to blame him, it's not because of your young QB.
You can see how these guys don't respond to logic. You posted a full season of games that Alex contributed little to the winning score, but they still aren't having any of it because they can't handle the truth.

At this point, you can keep banging your head against a brick wall until it hurts, or you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble knowing that Acolytes of the Church of Alex Smith are a faith based group that has no need for logic or reason.

Unless you just really enjoy spending days arguing with brain-dead numbskulls, then have at it and enjoy.

Bust their balls all you want but trying to persuade them is futile. It is the old saying, " "Never argue with a pig; it just frustrates you and annoys the pig."

I went from not having an NBA team to liking the Clippers, mostly because they're fun to watch and an extremely interesting mix of players. But I'd consider myself a Clipper's fan - is that a douche move? I've been to LA but have no family there.

No biggie, just rambling... like I said, it doesn't matter to me how people spend their time and money. People should watch whatever entertains them, since after all, it's just another product... but at the same time it just seems like if you have more than one team, you might as well not have any.

Is there a point in claiming a team besides loyalty?

Yes, which is why Andrew Luck took the opening drive form his 20 in for a TD against a 49ers Defense that had rested a full week. Kaepernick must have worn them out in the locker room.

No. Actually, the only people who said that, THEN, were me and Mac.

You know the two niner turds that a lot of people cant stand, who are on the regular way more upbeat about the Chiefs, than Chiefs fans.

Its cool though.
Bullshit. I said all offseason KC was 10 plus win team because of Alex's ability to control the ball and the elite talent on D being used aggressively.

Family might play a role in who you like as a team based on their location in that you liking a common team is an additional bond or tradition you share with them. IE me growing up a UK fan because half my family whom lives in Kentucky and have season tickets to Rupp Arena.

Asking a fan if theyve been to the location of said team is a leading question to determine whether or not the aforementioned fan is actually from the locale of their team. An answer in the negative means you get to bag on them for being bandwagon.
