JD's New Year's Heave Mock (3 Rounds)

1. Danny Shelton, DT, Washington - Comparisons to Wilfork seem valid. He already excels against the double team. He would allow us to kick Poe outside and play a Ngata type role at times. He would also provide insurance as a run stuffer if DJ and Berry don't come back. Last, if we lose Poe we are screwed. We need a back up at NT bad. That will be a priority this off season. I don't really believe Vickerson is the answer. He hardly played. Shelton is big, mean, and he wrecks shit. I love him.

2. Cameron Erving, C, Florida State - The guy stands 6'5" and weighs 308 lbs. He's exactly the mauler type that Reid loves. He is nasty and has a mean streak. He is familiar with making reads in a west coast offense. Last, he is versatile and has played every o-line position including left tackle.

3. Tyler Lockette, WR, Kansas State - Dude has blazing speed and would be perfect in the slot. I know a lot of people see DAT as the eventual slot receiver but I don't think that's the plan. He is more of a mismatch nightmare coming out of the backfield. Lockette runs good routes and has good hands. His vertical speed will also open up those underneath routes that we love to run.

3 (Comp). - Josh Shaw, CB, USC - This guy is the prototype for an NFL cover corner. He stands 6'1" tall and weighs 200 lbs. He is excellent in man coverage and is rarely fooled. He can and has played safety. He is a very good tackler and excels at ripping the ball out. Yes, he's the guy who jumped off the balcony and lied about it. However, he is fully healthy and played in USC's last three games. I think he will drop this far because he jumped due to a 911 call following a domestic dispute. No charges were ever filed. He is a first round talent and is a knucklehead. Hopefully he learned something and is worth a 3rd round comp pick imo.

I don't think it's a fan favorite type of mock but, I do think it's realistic. Now go ahead and puke all over this!

I don't like the idea of moving Poe, which is why I don't like the Shelton pick. I said the same when Sac mocked him (I think it was Sac). I like Poe where he is and I'd like to see KC bring in a big fella like Ellis to spell him. Ellis played really well as a reserve in New York and I'd make it worth his while to be a reserve here rather than waste a draft pick on the position.

I think Erving is going to go in round 1, and probably will play tackle for the team that drafts him. He's a hell of a player, maybe the best overall blocker in the draft.

As for the rest, well hey I'm not going to argue them. I like that portion. I'd like the whole thing if not for the fact that I can't bring myself to agree with the Shelton pick.

Makes absolutely no sense to take DL in the first or second round. Or any time until deep in the draft.

We are stacked at DE right now: Bailey (who, let's face it, is the only DE we're going to have playing more than 30% of the snaps, given how often we go dime), Walker, Howard, Catapano.

And right now we have the best NT in football. We need a reserve NT (instead of trying to shoehorn Walker there), and the backup NT from the Jets just hit the market, which should be a slam dunk here, given Bob Sutton.

Erving is.... alright. Shaw isn't a great fit, but he fits the measurables we like in our CBs, but Lockett of course is a slam dunk if he lasts to the third.

Lockett should last to the third. It's a pretty deep receiver draft. Problem is, we've got him on roster in Avery of Jenkins. Very slight and I don't know what you do with him beyond burners like Thomas or Wilson or his twins Jenkins and Avery. Is he giving you something different than Thomas at this point?

I'd like to see a larger catch radius downfield versus yet another midget speed dude.

Fair point.

Keep in mind what Dorsey likes in WRs, though.

All his WR acquisitions follow a pattern: Avery, Thomas, Wilson...

You gotta run a 4.3 for Dorsey to take interest.

Oh, I understand. He's probably salivating over guys like Stefon Diggs and Phillip Dorsett. Shit, Diggs hits every single one of his "I like to draft this type of guy" boxes.

And I know that Kelce is our guy like that at this point.

However, Bowe has had his uses downfield. Problem is, he's really, really expensive at this point. Hemingway should have been that guy, but he's obviously just a #5 WR/Special Teams ace. They need to look at someone who can actually fight a guy off for a jump ball versus a bunch of fast midgets, IMO.

Love the Shelton pick. The Chiefs were 30th in yards/rush attempt and 28th in rush yards/game. Other than Poe, no one on the Dline is above average. Need two monsters in the middle to get those rushing numbers in the Ravens and Seahawks range and affect the passer. Chiefs are closer to having a dominant defense than a good offense. Shelton gets the defense closer to dominant.

So much this, although Albert Wilson ran a 4.43. Still 7th fastest at the combine though.

I think these guys will all be high on Dorsey's list:

Nelson Algholor
Sammie Coates
Rashad Greene
Phillip Dorsett
Tyler Lockett
Justin Hardy
Devin Smith
Ty Montgomery

Am I missing anyone?

At this point Catapano is nothing more than an urban legend.

How so? He got quite a few reps his rookie season and looked pretty good. He looked insanely quick. He looked like just as good of a pass rusher as Allen Bailey in 2013, but he wasnt anything special against the run. He's solid depth, and has proven he can atleast come in and get after the QB. He had 9 QB hurries in 77 snaps... But i find it odd you chose to nit pick about that anyways. Even without Catapano it's still a very deep Defensive line.
