Chiefs' draft needs next year

The Chiefs have made great strides in recent years, acquiring significant talent that will never be allowed to play in a Super Bowl. In order to continue losing close playoff games against the teams that always go to the Super Bowl, they'll need to continue drafting well.

What are your top three areas of priority in the draft? Assuming equal talent among all prospects, what are the areas that would draw your first three rounds of picks?

Poll to follow, unless the referees force me to post it on some Steelers forum.

ILB - Self explanatory
QB - It's just time
OL - Gotta keep snagging a Morse or Ehinger within the 1st three rounds every draft
WR - Goodbye Albert Wilson

The only position which will have any significant overall effect is QB.

They can draft the next Ray Lewis at ILB or Deion at CB and it won't make a lick of difference if Alex Whiff is 'leading' this team to 16 painful, short-field-aided points.

We all seem of like mind. I went...

QB
ILB
G

Our OL was getting killed yesterday. I don't even know what to do about that at this point. Who do we upgrade? It seems like the problem is more in the interior than exterior.

I was tempted to go WR or DE, but we got Hill and Jones so I think there are other priorities.

Oh, and RB is a need, too, assuming that Jamaal doesn't emerge running from the forest like that Willem Defoe guy in Platoon.

Guard is definitely a need, but since we could only pick 3 my choices are

QB
RB
ILB

God bless hard charging Spencer Ware, but I've come to the conclusion that he doesnt quite rise to the level we need here

I should probably just go over to Draft Planet and read about it, but what's the consensus on DeShaun Watson? I know there are doubters there. And I also know that in order to get him, we'd have to pay a king's ransom in future draft picks. Fine. If he, or another top QB is available then we need to pay whatever needs to be paid to get him. Watson just strikes me as having the moxie to be a great QB.

Think about it. Over the past 15 years, we'd drafted almost EVERY other position in the 1st round.

2016: Traded out for Chris Jones (DL)
2015: Marcus Peters (CB)
2014: Dee Ford (OLB)
2013: Eric Fisher (OT)
2012: Dontari Poe (NT)
2011: Jonathan Baldwin (WR)
2010: Eric Berry (S)
2009: Tyson Jackson (DE)
2008: Glenn Dorsey (DT)
2007: Dwayne Bowe (WR)
2006: Tamba Hali (OLB)
2005: Larry Johnson (RB)

Most of these ended up being really good players. And yet we STILL can't cross into the land of the elite. And we ALL know why.

Find the best QB in this draft and pay whatever you have to in order to get him. We can find the other positions later in the draft and in FA/UDFA.

Well, QB is always the top of the list until you have one but since we know the Chiefs won't do that...

you just have to keep building defense. Build a top 3 defense and a top 10 running game and you might drag Alex to some post-season success.

That's about it in a nutshell. This is why I don't think Matthew Stafford gets enough props. No way that Lions team should've been in the playoff discussion this year.

I love the idea of taking Watson though I know it's a real long shot. We have a perfect situation for him and I have no issue playing Alex 1 or 2 years knowing we had a QB we're grooming. Andy Reid adapted the WCO to fit McNabb's talents and he would do the same for Watson.
