Proof positive that Russell Wilson is a game manager

Quote:
The Seattle Seahawks advanced to the Super Bowl in one of the most improbable comebacks in playoff history. Russell Wilson completed his final five passes, including a game-winning 35-yard touchdown in overtime to Jermaine Kearse.

Before the final five minutes and overtime, however, Wilson was abysmal. He threw a career-high four interceptions and became the second player in the Super Bowl era to win a postseason game with that many picks. Through three quarters, Wilson had a 0.2 Total QBR, and although he increased that number to 13.6 with his late-game heroics, Wilson finished the game with the lowest Total QBR in a postseason win since 2006.

This is not the first time that Seattle has won despite Wilson’s inefficiency. In fact, since 2012, Wilson’s first year in the league, the Seahawks have 15 wins in which their quarterback posted a below-average Total QBR, five more than any other team in the NFL. That includes both of Seattle’s NFC Championship wins during that time.
Quote:
Since Wilson entered the league, he has a 63.7 Total QBR in the regular season and playoffs, which ranks eighth among 31 qualified quarterbacks. Wilson deserves credit for his above-average QBR during that time, but does that equate to a 42-13 (.764 win percentage) career record?

Based on Wilson’s game-level QBRs in the last three seasons, he has almost 10 more wins than expected. No other player has six more wins than expected during that time.

So how have Wilson and the Seahawks been able to defy the odds? One word: defense.

In the last three seasons, the Seahawks have contributed 4.4 points per game to their net scoring margin on defense, by far the best defensive efficiency in the NFL. Only Alex Smith (2.1) and Andy Dalton (2.1) have had defenses that contributed more than two expected points per game in their starts during that time.
Quote:
Seattle’s defense has a knack for playing its best when Wilson and the offense are at their worst. Since the start of 2012, Wilson has had 22 games with a QBR below 50, including 15 wins. In those games, Seattle has held its opponents to an average QBR of 34.0 and has had a per-game defensive efficiency of +7.3. In Wilson’s games with an above-average QBR, the Seahawks have allowed a 45.7 average QBR and have had a +2.4 defensive efficiency rating.

My theory all along is that the whole thing is being built by the league to set up a good guy/bad guy narrative for the game. Dirty, cheating Patriots against our hero Russell Wilson and the clean-as-a-whistle Seahawks (nobody mention adderall this week! -thanks, RG).

I'm not saying the patriots didn't do it, I'm just referring to the weird way the story was leaked and the way the league has reacted since. It's another thing to talk about leading into next week.

I don't know of or heard anyone that thinks Wilson is elite. He's the perfect compliment to a team that is built on running the ball and playing great defense. Just because he's not elite now doesn't mean he won't be, and to be fair we're not quite sure he'll get there. That's what has people like me excited about Wilson because he CAN get better. We'll see if he does.

There's zero chance that Goodell would ever make something up to frame his good buddy Kraft or golden-boy Brady. If anything, the Seahawks have been promoted as the bad guys in recent years, so they would have made a scandal up about them if they were going to do that.

He's a game manager and there are no ifs ands or buts about it... Seattle BARELY even asks him to throw the ball. He's dead last among starting qb's in passing attempts per game. The guy is supported by an all time great defense and the best rushing attack in the NFL. I'd much rather have him than Alex, but he's a game manager at this point in time.

Just about every former QB and even John Madden came out and said footballs are in control of the QB and equipment manager. They've also said the QB dictates everything about the ball. Anyone with a shred of common sense knows the balls were fixed to Tom's preference.

For a marketing perspective who has been one of the league's pure white selling points? Tom Brady. There is no way the league is going to tarnish his image, or the league's image. The NFL did what it always does - goes out and hires some law firm with potential conflicts of interest to conduct an investigation where nothing is every uncovered.

Stats mean jack.

What you do when the moments are the biggest is what defines your legacy.

Russel Wilson steps up in those moments.

If he's not elite, who gives a rat's ass?

He's clutch, and that's what matters.

Tom Brady QBR in postseason losses since QBR began:

2013 (66) lost to Peyton

Is Russell Wilson supposed to be passing for 4,000 and 30 TDs throwing to Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse? Get real. He's a top 10 QB. He's a leader. He's a franchise QB.

When you think back to any SB you remember why they won.

85 Bears
88 Niners
90's Cowboys
98
00 Ravens
01
02 Bucs
etc. etc.

Russel Wilson's 200 yards is not going to be what anyone remembers.
Nothing against him, but he's not the reason that team wins SBs.

Agree. People remember Tom Brady leading his team down the field for the game winning kick over the Rams. Big moment for him.
