Paramount just released the trailer to Star Trek Beyond. I am less than pleased overall.

Justin Lin, the director of the last 3 F&F movies, is at the helm of this bullshit and from the tiny snippet of Simon Pegg jumping out of a pod and hanging off the side of a cliff... it looks equally as campy as F&F.

Justin Lin, the director of nothing but remakes and sequels, is also the guy in charge of the reshooting (because there won't be anything new about it) of the Highlander movie.

I love Trek but this new movie series has been largely garbage. Little to no rewatchability at all for either movie. For the first time ever... I am more excited for something Star Wars related than Trek.

This 3rd one I'm not feeling it yet. Why do we have to have a whole new world, with new stories? There is so much material to work with. Why can't you expand on something from the history and make it pertinent to non ST fans as a movie?

New worlds because they are on their '5 year mission' to explore new worlds I assume. The last movie ended with them voyaging off to begin it.

Obviously $6 a month is no big deal to me, I don't like the idea of them holding the fans hostage to launch their new platform. I get why as a business but I'm a fan I don't care about their business model being a success or not. I care about seeing more of these characters I've followed for 35 years.

The only way to salvage the franchise, IMHO, would be to have a movie featuring Captain Worf/Admiral Riker / Retired Picard of STTNG correcting the rift in the timeline created in the graphic novel "Countdown" which explained the birth of this new bullshit.

Of course it is, they're using the same characters, same time period, basically putting the some of the original series along with some new stories on the big screen.
A New Beginning (Ha! what a misleading name) was the original movie with some character name changes.

I really dig his work. It's nothing more than that, so I'm probably giving him the benefit of the doubt. Nothing really grounded in my hope that it’s truly the case.

In the trailer where they are seemingly trying to make their big escape, is that a Scott Bakula era starship they're aboard? I guess that whole storyline took place before Nero's ship showing up, but it wouldn't explain how Archer and his crew found and operated that early era Constitution class USS Reliant, especially considering how the timeline took a hard left a few years later. That Reliant would be a different ship now, right?

Trying to keep convoluted time lines and alternate universes in order is hard work, apparently!

That was the Defiant from the Tholian Web episode of the Original Series, and it was Mirror Archer of the Terran Empire finding it in their universe.

But yeah, looks like Kirk and Sulu commandeer an NX class ship to save the day.
