I think you just fit the vocals to your taste, the rest would come together. I'm more fascinated by how many bands had greats in multiple spots. You look at Rush with Neil Peart and Geddy Lee, I mean that's two of the greatest on their respective instruments ever. I think you look at Led Zeppelin, with Plant, Bonham, Jones, and Page, that's insane talent individually. The list goes on. There are a few individual talents I thought long and hard about that don't necessarily fit the "norm." Korn bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu is really ****ing good. Kind of a slap player like Geddy and I think he'd be a good sub for alot of the oldies. Dayze put up Wes Borland on guitar, who I thought about. That guy is f'n insane and I loved seeing him live back in the day. Now he flips houses haha. I would have swapped him for Page, but I'd keep Eddie Van Halen who I think is absolutely amazing and so severely underrated. Matt Cameron of Soundgarden is a phenomenal drummer. Thought about him for a while. So is Travis Barker from Blink 182. I just didn't feel they fit quite as good with what I was looking for, but you want a great rhythmic drummer, worth a look. You want a guy that can just hammer, I really like Dave Lombardo from Slayer. I any event, so many rock bands these days have insanely talented "players" but I question the creativeness that alot of the old guys had. |

I thought about many subs for my list. I included Jerry Cantrell in my list mostly for songwriting ability, less for true skill. Same with Adam Jones. Although both guys can shred, it's their minds that are important for this project. I also thought about Les Claypool on bass - watching him live, hammering on a standup electric bass was insanity.

99%, these types of bands don't work, unless they're playing covers, because 99% of being in a band is less about individual ability and more about the chemistry of the players.
Technical ability has very, very little to do with creating something special, musically. |
