New Foo Fighters

Me like. A bit of a departure, with that signature Foo rhythm.

Well, that was in response to his views about the music business at the time, not him personally.

Plus, he had a tendency at the time to get all drunk and go on rants, which really didn't help anyone in the business with his anti-business attitude.

But for the record, he did back up his stance later by releasing St. Cecilia for free, so he wasn't just talking out of his ass.

I kinda liked Alice in Chains...occasionally. Soundgarden was fine but not a 'must listen'. I guess Smells Like Teen Spirit is a good listen but it's nonsensical and the rest of Nirvana's catalog I can live without. Pearl Jam I just never got at all. Hey, this guy sounds like he's actually swallowed the microphone...awesome. Hated STP.

Then it turned into some kind of weird emo pop music when Smashing Pumpkins and Candlebox and folks like that tried to glom onto the movement.

Yeah...I could've lived without the grunge 'movement' (more of a moment) altogether.

The Foo Fighters are much, MUCH better.
I'm the opposite. Grunge was my youth. I love most of it. Pearl Jam being my favorite.

I do understand how some people can't stand grunge though or don't like it, and definitely Pearl Jam specifically. But that's why music is great. So many different things to like. My top two genres being grunge rock and country singer/songwriters. Polar opposites but great in different ways to me.

I hate people that bash others for what they listen to. I don't like most of the Pop music today, but I can see the draw that it has for many.

I hate the fact that it was dubbed "grunge".

Most of those bands were post-80's rock with punk influences. Soundgarden was Sabbath meets Zeppelin and AIC was early 70's Sabbath all the way. Pearl Jam was just good old fashioned rock music. Nirvana, to me, was an angry Cheap Trick.

The Foo Fighters are Modern Rock/Active Rock.

Agree on all. Especially Pearl Jam. Even 10 was more refined than grunge music and their albums after definitely fit more straight rock.

Feel free to PM me any PJ or Eddie stories you have. Jeff Ament is a Montana boy and awesome dude. Went to college with someone who used to house sit for him in Missoula.

So I'm scrolling through the Sgt. Pepper thread and remembered my loathing of John Lennon and was pretty sure I said as such 'round here.

So I go looking for the thread and in the process stumble into one of the rock contest polls that Rainman had several years ago. What do I find?

I never connected with Nirvana, either. Their second album was unlistenable to me and Bleach?

Blech.

Although I know guys that got fired for not making the leap from Bleach to Nevermind.

I was never A&R but I know that I wouldn't have been able to make that leap.

You ever see that "Classic albums" on vh1? I like Nirvana alot more when they take away Kurts vocals and you just get groove of bass and drums. Nirvana is cool and they were a symbol of the time for me, but they aren't something I obsess about.

I wasn't big on Nirvana until unplugged. That album was fantastic.

PJ is/was the best of that era, but Chris has the best vocals. Only guy who can sing a Led Zeppelin song better than Plant.

I appreciate a skilled drummer like the FFs have. Reminds me of some of the progressive players from back in the 70s.

Sounds like Nirvana's Bleach + Foo Fighters.

And oddly enough I think I just enjoyed a music video for the first time in almost 10 years...

Now granted, these guys are showmen and can hide their douchebaggery well, but few of them can actually pull of fake genuine (uh...if that makes sense). Grohl comes across as a 100% awesome dude.

Glad to see the correction because that would've been a hell of a bummer (though I still might not have believed you. Like I said, my buddy said he was just nice as shit and had no need to be at all).

Dave seems so genuine on stage. I saw them a year or two ago. He kept calling for the house lights to come on so he could see the audience. It was like he fed off the crowd and interacting with a few of them. It was easily the best concert ever. I'm with you. I can't/will not believe it was fake genuine.
