14 Year Old Chicago Boy Arrested and Charged with Felony Battery of a Police Officer

A 13-year-old boy is being charged with a felony after he allegedly hit a Chicago police offer with a snowball.

According to The Chicago Tribune, the incident happened close to the school the boy attends. The officer reported that the boy threw a snowball and hit him in the arm while he sat in a marked squad car. The eight-grader claims he wasn't the one who threw the snowball and that it didn't hit the officer directly. Regardless, he was arrested and charged with battery to a police officer, which is a felony.

In addition to the charges, the school has suspended the boy for five days, his mother said. Police confirmed it was the suspect's first arrest.

I hope the force provides adequate counsel time for the officer. With the right therapy, he may yet pull through this ordeal.

Under Illinois Law (720 ILCS 5/12 3), a person commits a battery if they intentionally or knowingly and without legal justification causes bodily harm to an individual makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with an individual. A common misunderstanding is that someone must be hurt or struck in order for a battery to occur. As long as physical contact is made in an insulting or provoking nature, and that touching is not wanted by the person receiving the touching, then Illinois law considers it to be a battery.


Under Illinois Law (720 ILCS 5/12 4), Aggravated battery is defined as follows:
(b) A person who, in committing a battery, commits aggravated battery if he
(6) Knows the individual harmed to be a peace officer, a person summoned and directed by a peace officer, or a correctional institutional employee, or a fireman while such officer, employee or fireman is

-engaged in the execution of any of his official duties including arrest or attempted arrest, -or to prevent the officer, employee or fireman from performing his official duties, -or in retaliation for the officer, employee or fireman performing his official duties, -and the battery is committed other than by the discharge of a firearm;

Without a doubt, but most are a little brighter than that. I had a friend that tossed a golf ball at a cop car when we were about that age and busted the cherry off the top of his car. There was a big ditch between where we were standing and they road the cop car was on. I was like WTF when he threw the golf ball. Cop stops, gets out of his car sees his light is busted and yelled "You boys are getting your asses kicked!!"

Buford T Justice jumps in his rig and takes off like Bo Duke to head over to where we were. I don't think I have ever ran so fast in my life. We ran to his house about half a block away and hid in the basement. The cop cruised the neighborhood for two hours trying to find us. You could see him go by from the basement window. I waited another two hours before I walked home to my house.
