2014 Broncos Offseason postmortem

In the offseason Denver signed

Aqib Talib (6 years, $57 million, $26 million guaranteed)
TJ Ward (4 years, $22 million, $15 million guaranteed)
Demarcus Ware (3 years, $30 million, $20 million guaranteed)
Emmanuel Sanders (3 years, $15 million, $6 million guaranteed)

...and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth around here.

Peyton Manning's base salary next year goes from $15 million to $19 million, and Denver's penalty for cutting him would drop from $22 million to $5 million.

Denver's team was built for this season, and they have failed with a one-and-done in the postseason.

Furthermore, how did those free agents look today, when it mattered?

I would still take Emmanuel Sanders.

Every time this year CBS said "what a great signing by Denver" it made my skin crawl considering he agreed to sign with us. Even if he didn't help us, he would have not been in Denver. Now that Denver lost it doesn't hurt as bad. Still would have liked to see what Smith would have done with Sanders, despite my lack of optimism.

Just goes to show that you can't buy a championship....BUT check out their cap space. They still have LOTS of room.

The truth is those were excellent moves for a win-now franchise. The only thing the franchise forgot is that Peyton Manning will always fail in the postseason. It's ingrained in his DNA.

That's what's hilarious about these crying Donk fans. They're going into the "rebuild" with a young unknown (yet still a 2nd round pick) QB, some good drafted pieces, and a poop ton of cap space that they can use to pick and choose which star players to make a part of their team's future.

Basically, the Donk fans are pissed off that their team is in a great position to build a solid foundation, but that it will take time.

They're basically pissed off that they have to play by the same rules that all the other teams have to do in building their teams.

I'd still rather be in their position with the chance to start off fresh with a new head coach and all that maneuverable cap space, with no pressure whatsoever to re-sign big pieces of the puzzle. They can simply choose to let some of their talent walk and make this a bigger project if they wish.

They should have paid Decker and Beadles.

Huge loss for their offense that wasn't replaced.

They are so spoiled.

It's tough because on 9ffense, without Manning, who are the stars?

They didn't win it all, but imagine their record without those FA additions. I contend those FAs or at least, some of them made them a better team. Peyton was a FA and improved them by a large margin.

Old QBs don't win Super Bowls.

A lesson re-learned.

Once a qb accounts for more than 10 percent of your cap, SB window gets really small
