For whatever reason (and it's probably because I've used this term for 15 or more years), Visual Effects or VFX makes more sense to my brain.

Oh, also, the term "CGI" or computer generated image, is a misnomer.
You can't just sit down and say "Okay computer, create "Mike Wazowski", then boom, there's Mike, one eyeball and all. The computer doesn't create or "generate" the image. They're drawn usually using a sketch pad, into a computer program, then animated once the design has been set. Or in the case of Takadono, the imagery and background is created. So Visual Effects is actually the appropriate term. |

Star Wars Rebels
Cinelinx is reporting a significant rumor that says that the show’s upcoming third season will in fact be its last. Expounding on rumors reported on Slashfilm (by current io9 reporter Germain Lussier) in 2014, the site claims that Rebels will end after its third season, replaced by a new animated series that could be potentially set in the “sequel era” between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The third season would focus on linking the series closer and closer to the events of the films—specifically Rogue One—while wrapping up the character arcs of many of the characters on the show. Although the series would come to an end, the site claims, it would live on with direct-to-DVD releases to explore the characters' futures. As ever with rumors like this, it’s best to take it with a pinch of salt—but considering that executive producer Dave Filoni recently told us that he’s already planned how the series ends, perhaps it’s not too unlikely?

Obi-Wan Kenobi Anthology Film
Ewan McGregor would be open to being involved in the heavily rumored Obi-Wan movie series: I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years. [Collider]

It's kind of shocking to me that the Han Solo film is moving forward before an Obi Wan movie. Harrison Ford IS Han Solo, so regardless of the script and directors (who are fantastic), I think it's going to be a tough sell. |

Han Solo is the cockiest, smugest, most successful swindler, pirate and star pilot in the galaxy. That's a tough casting call. |

And it's not like I was trying to say this movie is a triumph of practical effects, the first line of my post was "there was a lot of CG". But if you pay attention to that VFX reel you'll see that most of the foreground elements, i.e. the stuff the actors interact with, is practical. That may seem trivial, but it grounds the scenes enough that you don't feel like you're watching actors floating over cartoons like in Episode III. |

This fallacy that TFA is better because there are fewer VFX is complete nonsense. |

This discussion probably took place 100 pages ago, but near the end of the movie, when everyone is returning to the rebel base, Chewie is getting off the ship and walking toward Leia. Han has just died, his best friend in the universe and his wife are walking right at each other, and don't even acknowledge each other.
Instead, Leia stares right past him and has a moment with a girl she has never met before and they hug it out. What kind of shit is this? |
