Gentlemen, ran across this in the ProFootball Focus blog today. Thought I'd post it as a FWIW:

13:05 SIGNING! It’s official. The Chiefs have confirmed that they’ve snapped up Jeremy Maclin on a monster contract that will make him the sixth highest receiver in the league. That is quite frankly a ridiculous amount for a very good, but not great receiver. Maclin is coming off a career year and there’s no denying that receiver was a big need for the Chiefs, but even in his best season he still had only the 14th highest grade of all wide receivers. Fair play to Maclin for betting on himself last offseason and cashing in, but we’d be mightily surprised if he lives up to that deal. If he is to then he’ll need to keep up his ridiculous drop rate from 2014 where he dropped just one pass, as opposed to what he managed in 2012 when he put nine on the ground.

I hadn't really thought of Kennison as a comp, but it's not a bad one.

They do have very similar styles. I think Maclin's a more crisp runner and probably a little quicker but Kennison is the nearest recent Chiefs comp I can think of.

I think peak Kennison is close to Maclin good, to be honest, but I think Eddie was pretty massively underrated 'round here. In his prime, the Chiefs could have won a championship with Kennison as their #1 WR, especially with Gonzalez as the security blanket, much like Kelce could be here.

hey man, you don't gotta sell Kennison to me

I use him as my "Peyton Manning had too many weapons" prop all the time when I start talking about Marvin Harrison.

What I found noteworthy, Hootie, was that Maclin only had one drop last year. Whoa!!!

Maclin is a ****ing gamer, man. What a great signing by this organization.

Cowherd said the other day that in the NFL, the QB is the most important thing, the coach is the 2nd.

It's nice to know we have a coach guys will come play for.

I think that his historically low TD:INT ratio is plenty of evidence for his risk adverse nature.
I think it's yes to both of those... plus:

- Not a great deep WR core
- most of Smith's recent success has come from playing the short risk-averse game
