Likely baseless rumor: Luck wants out

It's mostly just some Twitter rumbling and an article here and there in Indy, but there are some quiet rumors (evidently over Luck's objection) that suggest that he may want out.

So the question becomes, what is the trade value of a quarterback who may not be healthy at any point this year and will be 29 next year, who has a bit of an alarming injury history now and who's contract is now not an asset of any sort?

Is it a kings ransom kind of deal; like could/should Cleveland offer that absurd haul of picks they have in the coming year+ for him. Or is it far less than that due to the injury concerns, contract and the fact that he's simply not a young QB anymore?

Now onto the Chiefs related question - if the Colts approach us in the off-season and offer him for Smith and Mahomes (Smith would presumably be necessary for cap purposes on our end), what's the consensus?

Personally, if the medicals check out, I pull the trigger and not think twice. It would theoretically shorten our window by it may also push it open wider in the coming years. Then again, that contract also likely costs us Marcus Peters given that he'd be a FA prior to Mahomes needing to be paid. Maybe Hill. Maybe Jones. Maybe Morse. The bottom line is that it will cost us at least one member of this young core in all likelihood.

So do you spin the wheel and take your chances that Mahomes can be 90% as good as Luck while being healthier and cheaper? Or do you grab the guy who looked like potentially the best QB in football at times and worry about the consequences later?

It's a closer call than I imagined it might be at first blush.

"His neck will never be the same"

"Good luck when he's injured all the time"

This board when Denver signed Peyton Manning. He went on to consecutive division champs, won the AFC twice, and went on to a SB title.

I can see it now....

"Good luck with his shoulder lol"

"He will never be the same"

Some of you guys still haven't learned what happens when a franchise like Denver gets a QB like Luck.

Mahomes better be a HOFer or we will be ****ed for years.

I think Indy will keep him, but the threat is real.

I understand people being cautious of his injury history, particularly the recent injury.

I'm a bit baffled by people acting like he's not really that good anyway. Dude tossed for 4K yards and 31 TD's on a terrible team.

And that pivot happened within minutes after Denver was rumored to be the frontrunner for him. Previous to that, when most of us were deluded into thinking we had a chance to land Manning, it was all "To the Ship!"

Luck is a big, strong kid. He will be back to 100% in no time. If not for the Chiefs grabbing Mahomes I would throw 3 first round picks at Indy to get him. With how good this team is the 1st round picks will in the 30s anyway.

Persinwlly, DJ's trade on makes sense if 2PM plays half a season and doesn't show much.

I get the distinct impression Reid loves Pat, so this discussion is super moot.

He probably does.

Of course they will deny it.

No I wouldnt trade for him.

Hes still a very talented QB. Would reach his potential as a QB with a better franchise, he wont in Indy.

I laugh when I see Cleveland mentioned. Kizer is going to be really good.

How many games will that team win without him?

It's shocking he could win 8 games with that trainwreck Pagano has over there.

Luck would be SO MUCH better right now if Arians had been the Colts coach long term.

I've said it before but Mahomes is going have a much more successful and longer career than Andrew Luck.

I think we are the lucky ones to be blessed in drafting Patrick Mahomes II
