Saw Dontari Poe at Wal-Mart last night

Shopping right next to me in the bread aisle. When I got home my wife asked why I didn't request a photo/selfie with him. I said I'm too old for that, besides public figures deserve privacy. She disagreed, saying they like attention.

CP, settle that argument for us.

Depends on your perception, I suppose, but I don't think it's the same at all.

People buy jerseys to represent their team. In doing so, they also financially support their team and the league.

Asking a grown man that you don't even know for a picture is some kiddy groupie shit. You're only doing it so you can show it off later and say "hey, I was in this guy's presence once, look!". It's weird.

Depends on the situation. If you run into someone going about their business, simply ask for a picture, and they glumly comply. Yeah, that's weird.

But, say you happen across the likes of Tom Hanks jogging while preparing for your wedding in Central Park, and you have a friendly conversation and he's genuinely happy to encounter your blessed day. Who wouldn't want this in their memory book?

I made this post earlier:

It would have to be entirely organic. The issue is, I'm not sure the average person can properly gauge a situation while being starstruck so I'd generally shun the behavior.

Well if the guy stayed after a game to mingle with fans then it's kind of assumed that he'll be down for taking pics/signing autographs. In that case ask for whatever you want.

OP saw Poe out and about. It's completely different.

Yeah, if you're in public and they're going about their business it's a different matter.

If for no other reason, posing for a pic can start a procession of looky-loos who might not even have recognized the celebrity until you caused a public scene.

Like I said initially, pump chest and nod. . . Walk away. Let him know he's recognized and appreciated, but you respect his space.

Celebs will tell you, it's not the pic. It's the 100 pics that follow.

Reminds me, it can be amazing how much patience some celebs can have.

This dude is clearly an online swag vendor, and Damon doesn't bat an eye or grimace for a second. I'd never have this patience.

Coming from a guy named TimBone that makes a lot of sense.

I've seen more than one celebrity get interrupted while dining out. It's amazing how bold some folks get when they run into a celebrity. Won't ever be a problem for me.
