Cards vs. Royals weekend series

Question for the Royals fans. You want to keep the discussion in your daily game threads or do you just want to keep us Cardinal fans out of "your" threads?

or start a shared thread?

This is looking like the best time in our history that both of our teams have been playing at this high of a level when we played each other.

We went to the NCLS last year and you went to the WS but we were playing like shit when we played. This year we have the best record in baseball and you guys are just one game behind that record, correct?

Bring it on. May the best team win.

I've lived within a mile or two of the Rays stadium for the last 5 years. But, become a fan? Thought never entered my mind.

For better or worse, I'll always be a fan of the same teams that I've been a fan of since before kindergarten.
I grew up going to Royals and Chiefs games so I'll always be a diehard fan for life. The sports fan in me is able to admire certain teams and the way certain athletes play but I'll never have the same connection that I do with KC teams. If the Chiefs and Royals are out of it I pull for the teams I admire or against the team I hate with a passion but I wouldn't ever call myself a fan.

I, having never lived in either KC or St. Louis, can't get fully into the Cards hate. Their fans, while annoying, don't make me lose respect for an organization that's done it right by developing their own players at an amazing clip. Envious with how they've always done it since the Royals were always so bad through my life.

Live around them for awhile, live in Springfield for a few years. Your attitude would change. That being said, 95% of the posters here are the exception, not the norm IMO.

I love much closer to kc than stl, and most people are cards fans. There were few other than me that sported royals gear prior to the end of last year.

I think that's because as far as I know, not a single Cardinals fan on this site considers the Royals a rival. Which is really too bad. If the Royals had moved to the NL the Royals could have two natural rivals in STL and the Cubs.

Also we are not in a frathouse or at a college kegger where it seems a lot of the Royal fan posters Cardinal fan hate originates.

One of the great things about being a Royals fan after last year and the start this year is that we/I dgaf if the Card fans think of this as a rival. We made the World Series last year and appear to be favorites to repeat again this year. Validation from the most condescending fans in baseball is no longer required.

Good luck starting on Monday.

What if you're a fan of both teams since around kindergarten? I grew up in KC so that's where my heart is but the first baseball game I ever attended was an Iowa Cubs game and I spent many days of my childhood running home from the bus stop to catch the end of the Cubs game. I think it was just a different time. The WGN cable deal turned a lot of people into Cubs fans. Especially in cities where the home team was rarely on tv. Growing up now with the Royals on TV everyday there's no way I would have ever given 2 shits about the cubs. Sometimes I wish that were the case too. Like you say though, for better or worse.

That would require a move to the NL, however. Until you guys get with the times and adopt the DH, that is just not worth it; NL baseball kinda sucks.

The benefits of a "real" rivalry would outweigh the pitcher batting.
