Informally buy a large pack of blades off EBay and usually Shark blades are in the pack. I would say the are the better of the blades.
I can easily get 2 shaves from a blade. On the 3rd shave the blade starts to pull the hair a little too much. I have sensitive skin and the blades are so cheap that I usually don't try and stretch it. Check out Edwin Jagger as they have a very good selection of razors, brushes, creams, lotions, kits etc. I received a nice kit as a gift and it's one of the best gifts I have ever got. To me the lotions and creams make all the difference. Shaving takes more time when you have to do everything from scratch but it has a nice old school feeling to it. For some reason if I use an electric razor and wear a dress shirt my neck explodes |

I realize every beard is different and the number of passes in a shave can very. But if you are only getting to shaves out of a blade I'd be looking at something else. You should be able to at least double that number.

Let me know how your Bay Rum experiment turns out! I LOVE bay rum (except for that hell-fire-in-a-bottle that Pinaud makes...it makes me smell like a Christmas cookie and burns way more than I like). |

It depends on the blade. Some guys on the shave boards change blades that often out of principle. When you can get 100 blades for about $10, the cost per blade is minimal. Me? I nurse those blades for all it's worth and I've gotten as many as 22 shaves out of an Astra! I accumulated 300 blades within a year of staring in 2008 and I'm still not done using them (100 each of Derby, Astra, and Shark blades).
