CBS NEWS: Hot Sauces Ranked By Heat

Hot sauces, ranked by heat:
http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/hot-...d_id=61806652/

The listicle goes from one to twenty nine, even though they are listed as 1-30 with number 30 missing. Here are a few of my favorites from the list that I have tried and enjoyed over the years-other than that last one. I have never tried the stuff but I want to cook with it at some point, before I'm so old that it will kill me. The article has pics to jog your memory. Click on it to see them.

    • 26. Taco Bell Fire Sauce
    • This is the hottest sauce served in packets at the popular taco chain. It has 500 SHU... nowhere near the top of the scale.
    • Credit: Tacobell via Instagram
    • 24. Valentina Salsa Picante
    • Valentina Salsa is just starting to gain popularity in the United States, but it's the best-selling hot sauce in Mexico. It brings 900 SHU.
    • Credit: SalsaValentina via Facebook
    • 19. Valentina Salas Picanto - Extra Hot
    • Valentina's spicier version delivers 2,100 SHU — more than double the heat of its original.
    • Credit: SalsaValentina via Facebook
    • 18. Huy Fong Foods Sriracha Sauce
    • Sriracha creator David Tran said he set out to "make a rich man's sauce at a poor man's price."
    • The company has never advertised its products, but in 2010, Tran had to open a 650,000-square-foot facility to keep up with demand. Sriracha clocks in at 2,200 SHU.
    • Credit: Huyfongfoods via Instagram
    • 14. Tabasco Original Hot Sauce
    • The ubiquitous hot sauce has up to 5,000 SHU.
    • Credit: Tabasco via Instagram
    • 8. Dave’s Ultimate Insanity Hot Sauce
    • Dave's Gourmet recommends you use this sauce "one drop at a time." It boasts 250,000 SHU.
    • Credit: DavesGourmet via Facebook
    • 1. Blair’s 16 Million Reserve
    • The hottest hot sauce isn't really a sauce at all. It's packaged pure capsaicin crystals (the chemical compound that makes peppers hot), and is "not to be consumed or even opened without using extreme caution."
    • As the name suggests, it clocks in at 16,000,000 SHU.

I've been curious, is the original Huy Fong Sriracha still hot as it used to be?

I've picked up a couple 'store brand' Srirachas [cough Trader Joe's] and they might as well be called garlic ketchup.

And a lot of the 'Sriracha' stuff you get at restaurants is pretty mild, too.

Just wondering if it ALL got milder as it got more popular, or just the copycats.

I've had the same bottle of original sriracha in my fridge for over a year I'd guess. It's got enough heat for my liking. Never bought any of the other kinds.

I grabbed a bottle of stuff that said sriracha sauce on the label and gave it a try. Holy shit, was it bad. Nothing like the real stuff. I threw that bottle away.

I use it mainly on eggs. I have some ground chili paste I use most often for stir fry and asian stuff. If I'm doing a regular hot sauce for fried chicken or fish I just use Crystal or Habanero Tabasco.

Have you tried the Valentina chili powder seasoning? They have it with citrus but I prefer it without.

I have not. I will take a look when I go to the store. I have so many damn different seasonings and sauces on hand at any given time it's a bit silly, but one more couldn't hurt.

Its Joes KC signature sandwich but they can shove it up the wahoo as far as I am concerned. BBQ with cheese on it is just wrong much less O rings. Its popular here for some reason.

Yeah, if the BBQ is any good... it doesnt need cheese and onion rings, kinda reminds me of that monstrosity Arrowhead unveiled a few years ago, brisket slathered in barbecue and cheese sauce, and every other ridiculous thing they could think of

It looked like a big disgusting mess

Oh FOR ****'s SAKE.

It doesn't have cheese and rings because the BBQ 'needs' it. They sell tons and tons of Q plain on a plate.

They put cheese and rings on the sandwich because they go together well, it sells well and makes one of the best sandwiches in the country.

I've been light-hearted thus far, but if you're gonna bag on KC Joes from the BBQ wastelands of Illinois, there's a limit to my gentleness of spirit.

That's it. A duel at 10 paces.
