This report comes just 20 minutes after the Browns acquired Osweiler from Houston in a bombshell trade nobody saw coming. It looks like there's a good chance Osweiler will never play a down for Cleveland as the Browns will simply absorb his $16 million salary and move on. Cleveland has all the cap space in the world so the $16 million hit isn't a big deterrent. Perhaps the Browns will package their first-round pick with the 2018 second-rounder they just received from Houston in a trade for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
WTH?

We all need to remember that Denver offered him an idiotic amount of money only to have the Texans bail them out with the stupidest offer in NFL history.

They didn't even talk to him. They threw money at him. ****ing idiots.

Not if you have to get to a cap floor and your alternative is hurling money into a depleted market to acquire aging veterans.

Sure, in a vacuum its a poor decision, but the Browns don't exist in a vacuum. They exist in an area where they have a mandatory amount of cash/cap spending they have to make and face penalties if they don't.

Why spend that $16 million chasing mediocre veterans when you can just use it to get another piece of ammunition towards your rebuild. This is a 'tank' move like you've seen in Philly in the NBA and Houston in MLB. It hasn't made its way to the NFL yet but I wonder of DePodesta isn't going to change that.

Spend cap, don't improve, keep your draft picks at the top of subsequent drafts while you continue to accumulate ammunition in pursuit of the 2018 QB class.

Had they spent that money on 2 veterans that so much as won them a single game next year, it would have done more harm than good. It could have been what cost them someone like Darnold.

This is exactly it. This is a former MLB executive taking an MLB/NBA approach that goes against a lot of conventional NFL thinking. And he definitely doesn't care. We will definitely see more moves like this. Will it work? It might not, but I think it's what will happen.

Browns should be in the playoffs from like 2019 through 2025 with all the picks they are getting. If they get lucky with a good QB... and completely restructure their organization and get a good coach.... hmm, ok, browns are gonna keep being browns.

It's been said before it's better to lose a ton than win a little and stay in the middle. How great would it be for us to have a top five pick next season for a QB. We damn near had the top pick with Luck but of course we blew it.

Their GM maybe thinking just that. These QBs suck so get all the picks I can for next year and this year just move up and down in the draft and pick who I want. It's not like they can actually pick 20 players.

I know we all hate Denver and Elway, but how good of a GM has he been? First, they get Tebow, he appears to "lead" them to the AFC Championship. Then he cuts him. Turns out he sucks.

Then they get Peyton Manning. Everyone said he was done and couldn't throw a football ever again. Wrong. Won Super Bowl.

Then they have Brock Osweiler who appears to have solved their QB situation going forward and has a better season than Peyton Manning. Refuses to sign to a long term deal. Osweiler goes to Houston and is dog shit.

Elway has been a genius. Now he's going to go get Tony Romo, and all of you guys think Romo sucks. The writing is on the wall. Lets go get Romo, and cock block those donkey ****s.
