Tennessee needs some more depth at the LB position.
The Tennessee Titans select Jordan Zumwalt, OLB, UCLA. |

1) his "blankey" has been Tony Gonzalez and Tony was ancient and was really their only real receiving option (Harry Douglas is a good 3rd WR that had a good year because he was thrown at a lot.) and if you watched the games was basically treated as a special teams gunner most games because opposing defenses knew he was basically all they had. 2) Julio Jones is his go to receiver in the system and is almost always open when healthy. He went on IR early on in 2013. 3) Roddy White is on his last legs and will turn 33 in early November. His body was breaking down all year in 2013 and maybe had 2 or 3 games all yar where he was healthy. Prior to that, he was a reliable possession receiver. 4) They had NOTHING at RB. Steven Jackson was brought in to add a boost to the running game and was injured almost every game and was a shell of his former self. 5) The defense was lost its best pass rusher. No more John Abraham (had a good year in Arizona with 11.5 sacks) and that was a killer blow to a defense with few pass rushers, as is. We all know this is a passing league and the Falcons were fourth worst in terms of team pass rush. Losing Abraham and then losing Kroy Beirman to IR was just crushing. 6) Other defenders that went on IR or missed significant time to injury and the injury effected their on field performance when they played through it... Sean Weatherspoon (stud) , Corey Peters, Stephen Nichols, Thomas Decoud, Kroy Beirman (Stud)...losing all of those guys to injury paired with losing John Abraham to Arizona really put a lot of pressure on the offense to score points. With THE WORST RANKED RUNNING GAME IN THE NFL, that meant Matt Ryan had to try to win games SINGLE HANDEDLY especially after losing Tyson Clabo to Miami in free agency and Sam Baker to IR. /// Now, I think I have attacked almost every area of the teams needs through this draft with fantastic values in each and every round. Holes at receiver due to age and injury? Here's Brandon Coleman. You can thank me later. Bad safety play from Decoud? Here's Jimmy ****ing Ward. No pass rush? Here's Khalil Mack to pair with Kroy Beirman...a formidable tandem....not to mention Ego Ferguson...who received a second round grade from the draft advisory board and I stole in the 5th round. No running game to speak of? No problem, here's a possible stud in Jeremy Hill. Having trouble blocking the strong side pass rush? Here's Niklas to help with that, along with possibly bringing Tyson Clabo back to man the right tackle spot. I know it's fun to say "anybody could have had a good draft for Atlanta, they don't have many holes and draft at the top of each round....and Matt Ryan just got sacked again" but there was a shitload of thought placed on each and every one of my picks thus far and when they get the all pro Sam Baker back at left tackle and bring in a vet to man the right side (Tyson Clabo graded out very well in pass protection for Miami last year and can step right in as Atlantas starting right tackle) spending a high pick on a OT just doesn't make much sense now, does it. /rant Have a good day! |

Dude.....that's all fine and good but you can't say "I didn't draft a tackle because they can just sign this guy". He's not on the roster and the Falcons still have a hole at RT and an unknown at LT. I don't get to say...oh I won't draft a guard because the Jags can just sign Naweri who is a FA and used to play for them. That's not how this works. As it is right now....Atlanta's offensive line is still a question mark.

Haha ok.
The only picks I'd even think of changing would have been taking Bitonio over Niklas or Mewhort over Hill (which would have been my preference if I had been PMd and wasnt squashed for time and out of town using a loaner cell phone before my iPhone 5c came in) because Mewhort was near the top of my list (was above Hill) he would have been my pick because of the value, not the position. In all honesty, I think Bitonio goes in the actual draft in the late first to mid second round and Niklas goes in a similar spot. Being that I think Sam Baker comes back to man the LT spot and plays at an effective level, I don't think spending that high of a pick on his replacement would be a wise usage of resources...but to each his own. I went into this thing not wanting to reach AT ALL because this is a sick draft and drafting for need ****s teams in drafts like this. I have serious questions about Bitonios ability to play either tackle spot in the pros and might end up at guard, that's why I passed on him and drafted that mountain of a man known as Niklas...who will really help blocking the strong side edge for them. Pairing him with Tyson Clabo (or somebody else that might be a good value in the draft if the board falls that way) I think helps their front line blocking than taking a replacement for Sam Baker or overspending for a right tackle prospect. Also, the drafts not over yet. |

Like I said, if I had more time Mewhort would have been my pick over Hill and would have been almost perfect for the Falcons right tackle spot...but what's done is done. I'm happy with Hill, who the draft advisory board supposedly also gave a second round grade. Good value. The falcons aren't as stacked as you make them seem to be, especially when you look at last years injury report. |
