Malaysia Airlines loses contact with plane carrying 239 people

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane with 239 aboard enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The airline said in a statement early Saturday it was attempting to locate the Boeing 777 after it lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m.

China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported the plane was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, and did not make contact with Chinese air traffic controllers.

The plane is carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members. The airline said it is working with authorities to locate the plane.

Boeing said on its Twitter account it is monitoring the situation, and "our thoughts are with everyone on board."

One commander even said we have to find the haystack first. Which prompted someone else to add we are looking for the Farm before then.

This plane is going to be found by accident.

I hope for the public's sake, if it's found by a government sponsored search, that they don't try to spin it as "we knew it was here all along".

Time seems to be running out, they're bringing the underwater blackbox finder in. I wonder if they have any idea by now on where to search? Haven't been following in the past few days because of prior overload..., but from what I hear, all they found so far was basically garbage?

Chinese vessel picks up 'pulse signal' from South Indian Ocean, according to state media reports

A Chinese ship searching for the missing Malaysian Airlines plane has detected signals from a location in the South Indian Ocean, according to reports.

A black box detector deployed by the vessel Haixun 01 picked up the "ping" signal at around 25 degrees south latitude and 101 degrees east longitude - just north of the designated search area west of Perth.

The pulse signal had a frequency of 37.5kHz per second - the standard frequency emitted by black box flight recorders.

A reporter with state broadcaster CCTV, quoting a crew member onboard the Haixun, said four pings were detected over the course of 15 minutes.
China's Liberation Daily, meanwhile, reports that three people on board had heard the signals, however these were not recorded as they came without warning.

More at the link, but in summary 1) it might be a mistake, and 2) it could be from a different plane in theory, but it's far better than all the floating debris leads they've found so far.

More then likely it crashed in the ocean, the ocean is so massive that there is millions of different coordinates. They just can't find the right one.

I wonder when one of the subs in the area is going to let the cat out of the bag that there either is, or isn't, a ping happening! If a boat goes deep a drags its tail even deeper, they should know what sound lies below the layers.
