Va. Tech is joined at the hip to UVA?

SEC teams have won 3 of the last 7 titles in basketball. Adding those 2 schools would put 6 of the last 8 in the SEC.

Duke and UNC are ACC basketball. They certainly aren't getting anything from the ACC that the SEC wouldn't provide.

Duke and UNC already run the ACC, which is why there was reported unrest amongst the ACC football schools. Why would they want to run from a roost they already rule?

I think the Big XII will stand pat at 10 unless the unrest in the ACC gets more legs. That's the only scenario I think the Big XII jumps on. Depending upon how many teams they go after, Louisville could be one of the add ons to get to 14 or 16, but I don't think Louisville mkes the Big XII move on its own.

Seems to me the ACC might be interested in Louisville if they are moving. If you are Louisville it seems like a good fit. Better basketball conference than the Big12

My guess is that the Big XII desperately wants to be one of the 4 biggest/strongest conferences. The SEC, PAC, and B1G currently occupy 3 of those 4 slots. The BEAST, XII, and ACC are going to go to war over that final spot.

The BEAST is going to lose. That will leave the other two to duke it out. Meanwhile, the other conferences will take advantage of the uncertainty and try to poach attractive targets from the ACC, XII, anf BEAST.

Then, it becomes a game of chicken between schools like UNC and Texas. Do they stand their ground and hope their conference wins, or do they jump to become just another member of a safe conference (UNC to the SEC, Texas to wherever they want)?

That's my analysis FWIW.

True, but someone could force their hands. If Slive is hell-bent on a 16 team SEC (and I think he is), he could tell UNC and Duke that it's them or VA Tech/NC State. At that point, they have to choose between joining the SEC and fighting a war against the Big XII (that I think the Big XII could likely win).

Yes. It took alot for VA Tech to get into the ACC. I am pretty sure that I heard somewhere that they are joined at the hip.

The SEC doesn't bring anything better to Duke and UNC than what they already get in the ACC. They have about as much chance of going to the SEC as Michigan and tOSU.

I think they should divide the conferences between those that burn stuff and those that have class.

The ACC is showing some signs of a possible fracture. Michigan and tOSU are in a supremely stable conference with a massive television contract and a massive research grant.

North Carolina and Duke are in a conference vying with 2 others for a single seat at the grownups table. If the rest of their conference really is sick of dealing with them, the ACC could start to look like the XII did a year ago.
