Peterson asks to be traded
https://mobile.twitter.com/adamschef...40781270999046
[Schefter] Cardinals’ All Pro CB Patrick Peterson has asked Arizona to deal him by the Oct. 30 trade deadline, per league sources. Peterson feels as if the situation is deteriorating and continues to reaffirm to others that he “desperately” wants out, per source. |

I don't get the idea that our corners are fine. They're below-average at the very best. Not being as bad as other positions on our awful defense doesn't make them good. There's no depth either, if Nelson, Fuller, or Scandrick gets hurt we're absolutely ****ed.

Peterson is a better player; bigger and more physical. I think Jenkins is a little more athletic and more explosive but at much higher risk. Sure, I'd rather have Peterson than Jenkins, but if Jenkins can be had for a 3rd day pick and Peterson costs a 1st and then some, I'd take the latter over the former. Jenkins is super easy to cut/restructure if he doesn't fit into this system. He has experience in press-man schemes and seems to have matured a ton as he's aged; still firey as hell but appears to channel it into his game and effort.

I would take either, but I think Peterson could age a little better. He seems like he could fit in the mold of Woodson and transition to safety as he gets older as well.

Peterson is arguably a top-5 CB in the league, with a eh-somewhat cap-friendly contract.
He's 28 I believe. He's an amazing athlete who's in his prime and should continue to be at that level for at least for the next 3yrs. Chiefs D would look a LOT different come playoff time, esp if Eric Berry ever makes it back onto the field. Peterson shuts down half the field and can be single matched on opposing team's #1WR. This would do wonders for both Nelson and Fuller and they could finally play in positions that suit to their own strengths, playing the underneath intermediate routes vs their 2nd and 3rd guys. And if Berry comes back and is 100%, which I really highly doubt that will happen, but for sake of discussion and he does, Sorensen can go back to his prior 2016 role and O'Daniel improves and gets more PT, Houston comes back and this all of a sudden looks like a D that can get this team to a SB...and I think it'd be pretty convincingly too.

I don't know why, really - but it's rare as hell and not something I'd bother including in my calculus. Here's a worry with Peterson - his agent is Joel Segal and Segal is one of the more aggressive guys out there. He represents Houston, IIRC, and that wasn't exactly the most cordial set of dealings. Now assume you give a 1st for him and Segal comes calling in the off-season demanding a new deal. He knows you're pot committed. There's no way to tell him to kiss-off absent simply calling his bluff and assuming he won't hold out. You've given up a 1st round pick for him so you NEED him on the field and effective for the next 2 seasons. One of the few things that makes Peterson worth giving up significant draft capital for is his relatively low contract. It's not a screaming bargain, but it's down a bit from where you'd expect. I don't think he'd get $18 million/season or anything but he could probably get $15. Corners just aren't getting what many thought they might - Butler was the top FA corner available and he barely beat $12 million. If I have to go out there and give Peterson a new deal after giving up a 1st for him, I'm just getting strafed in that exchange. Meanwhile if you make a move for Jenkins and give up a 5th for him, who cares if he tries to get a new contract? You have no acquisition costs to speak of so you tell him to **** off and if he goes out there and gives poor effort, you cut him.
