So, I didn't see a thread started, and all the others are pretty maxed out to the point where a fresh thread would be needed soon either way.

Time to share the run up to ST & and another memorable year in the making!

I like Duncan's proposed Upton trade. I hate doing a 1-year guy, but he's a legitimate superstar and fits exactly what the Royals need. Add him, bring in a FA starter like Santana, and there's absolutely no reason this team can't get right back to the top in 2015.

1) Three-way (Hey-o!) Trade with Blue Jays and Braves.

The Blue Jays reportedly are interested in Greg Holland, and the Braves are heavily shopping Justin Upton. Toronto doesn't really have the impact bat the Royals need back for Holland. The Royals really don't have the young pitching the Braves reportedly want for Upton.

But there's a way to make this work for all three teams.

Toronto Gets: RHP Greg Holland. Holland gives the Blue Jays the relief ace they're searching for to complete what they believe is a team that can win.

Kansas City Gets: RF Justin Option. Though he's on a one-year deal, Upton gives the Royals the RH thump they're looking for to complete their lineup.

Atlanta Gets: Young SP from Toronto (Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez), throw-in prospect from Kansas City (Christian Binford makes some sense)

The key is what Atlanta would need in return. If the Braves are giving up Upton, getting a good, young, MLB-ready pitcher back, with five years of control remaining, is a pretty strong return. Early buzz seems to indicate they want pitching for Upton, but it seems weird they don't want a bat or two included.

2) Royals trade for Drew Stubbs and sign Ervin Santana. Stubbs is on the trade market again and was almost shipped to Baltimore. That means the Rockies price can't be too high, because the O's have few options other than Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman, and neither of those guys is going to be flipped for Stubbs.

If KC can acquire Stubbs for, say, a package of Christian Binford, Paulo Orlando, and Orlando Calixte, that's a deal that could work for both. Colorado gets a decent, sinker-ball type pitcher who can work in Colorado, a good defensive OF with options who hits RH, and a middle infield prospect with intriguing power. KC gets an OF who complements Jarrod Dyson well and allows them to field an elite D in the OF even on days Dyson can't play. He also insures them against injury from Cain or regression from Dyson, while adding pop against LH starters.

By making a small move that doesn't add much to the team's salary, KC can now use its FA dollars to finish off the rotation. Most would feel comfortable with Ervin Santana on a three-year deal for about $40-45 million, but it may take an extra year to get it done for KC. If the 4th year is needed, I"m trying to structure it in some way that makes sense for KC (vested year if Santana pitches 520 innings in the first three years of the deal?).

3) Royals trade for Brandon Moss. This one is the hardest to gauge because the reported interest from Cleveland (that thankfully did not materialize) involved a middling 2B prospect going back to the A's in exchange for Moss. Joey Wendle, said 2B prospect, has power for the position but is coming off an underwhelming year at AA at age 24.

If the A's are looking for MI help and want a 2B back, maybe KC can make that work for them by including Christian Colon, who still has 6 years of control remaining. Colon doesn't have quite as much pop as Wendle, but he's closer to the majors and has conquered the high minors. He also offers the ability to play some SS, which may help the A's.

KC would likely need to include another tack-on minor piece here, and Moss would need to pass his physical (with no lingering effects from offseason surgeries), so this one has a lot of wildcards.

But Moss would give KC the offensive boost it's looking for, potentially.

The #Royals, #Rangers, #Indians, and #Padres are among the teams interested in #Braves outfielder Justin Upton, according to Joel Sherman.

I'd perhaps cross CLE off that list after the Moss deal.

Beginning to get difficult not to worry about this offseason. It's going to be hard to stomach that we were a game away from winning it all if we end up sitting on our hands in 2015.

Dayton Moore appears to be resting on his laurels as World Series runners up while every other team in the division is getting better. Wake the **** up Dayton.

If/when Dayton Moore moves on, I'm pretty sure I'll be ChiefsPlanet's favored replacement.

Someone let David Glass know, please...

After reading that and thinking about the Braves' needs at 2B, I'd tweak my deal proposal to look like this:

Holland to Blue Jays
Upton to Royals
Daniel Norris or Aaron Sanchez or Drew Hutchinson, Christian Colon, and Christian Binford to Atlanta. (If this isn't enough, maybe throw in an Orlando Calixte or consider replacing Binford with Almonte or Bonifacio).
