I'd just like to chime in and say 2 things.
1. F the Steelers. 2. The Jets are going to regret putting their sig on this contract with Bell. I'm thrilled he's not a Chief. |

The most satisfaction I'll get from this signing is watching Bell get his brains beat in on a losing team.

This looks alot like Shady McCoy to the Bills to me. When there are no other serious threats on a team....

I didn’t like this. They have a shit offensive line. They need a center and a pass rusher.

The franchise tag was $14.5M. The Steelers offer was $10M guaranteed.
Bell got $35M guaranteed from the Jets. He won. Plain and simple. He won BIG. |

I feel like the only way the Steelers release him after year 1, and that he doesn't have some kind of injury payday, is if he just totally sucks. It seems weird to me to say "Well yeah, but Bell is smart because he knows he might suck and get released" - which if true seems like a sub-optimal attitude that you'd want a star player to have. |

Didn't like this in what sense? For the Jets? For Bell? I don't think it's that bad a move. Having someone to help take attention away from Darnold isn't bad. They lack quality talent like everywhere though. Jets drafts over the past, whatever, six or so years haven't been good enough, plain and simple, and their free agency efforts have not been good enough to compensate for it. Not even close.

Meanwhile, the JEts had two pro bowls on special teams -- kicker and return man. The kicker they let walk (just signed with SEattle) and now news has just come out that their returner is gone too.
That makes not much sense to me. Special teams is a good way to start building a competitive team out of the ashes.

I'm with Bell on holding out last year. Playing one year under the franchise tag is one thing, but as a running back, being franchised a second time is another.
Pitt wasn't willing to actually guarantee him a long term deal. I don't blame Pitt for that, but there are obviously teams out there (or at least one) that was willing to give him a guaranteed multi-year deal. It maybe that the odds say he would on average have come out financially ahead by playing a second year under the tag. But I don't blame him for not wanting to play a second franchise tag when Pitt was clearly intending to run him into the ground and then get rid of him. He gave a FU to Pitt and still got a huge contract. Good for him. |

The whole structure with the Jets is soooo ****ed up. The coach and gm don’t have meetings together. They meet separately with the owner lol what successful franchise is run like that? None. That’s why a lot of players and coaches refuse to come to the Jets. Chris Johnson was the guy that hired Gase, not mcaggnan. They’re a ****ing joke. They stepped in shit with Darnold though. He’s gonna be good. |

Steelers leaked the $70 million figure to the press...to try to pressure Bell to sign. It only had $10 million guaranteed...it was a total dick move by the Steelers. They were planning on running him into the ground then releasing him this year. If he were seriously injured...he would be screwed. He sat out, stayed healthy and got $30+ million GUARANTEED. $30 million > $10 million. Bell did what he had to do...and it payed off. |
