MMQB: Dorsey, Browns rumored to be drafting Josh Allen at #1

From https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/04/01/jo...mqb-peter-king :

Quote:
FOD (Friend of Dorsey) thinks Browns will go Allen-Saquon at 1 and 4. What would an April MMQB be without another draft rumor?! This friend of Cleveland GM John Dorsey believes he’ll go Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen over Sam Darnold with the first overall pick, keep the fourth pick, and take Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. “I would be surprised if he traded down,” FOD told me. “This would be his chance to take his two offensive cornerstones for the next eight or 10 years.” The most interesting thing there? That FOD thinks Dorsey will not trade. I think that’s great. Cleveland’s been very good at trading and stockpiling, and not very good at drafting, in the last few years. I hope Dorsey’s more about the (relatively) sure things instead of Cleveland leading the league in draft picks.
For what it’s worth...

I just love how Mora is like "Rosen is a millenial who has to be told why to do something." as if that is a bad thing. Um, yeah okay. He's got an "attitude problem"?

Here is who Josh Rosen actually is, keeping in mind he was a Jewish kid at a rich, elite Catholic California private school:

Would be one of the worst top picks of all time. Dude fails EVERY metric that generally spots if a guy will suceed in the pros.

I’m not a fan of Trubisky. So I’d take Mahomes and Watson then probably Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield. But who knows, Trubisky could end up great. I do think last years class is better. Even Bucky Brooks said this QB class got overhyped.

Agree. I'd rather have Mahomes than any of these guys last year or this year.

I'd probably take Wentz over Mahomes based on what I've seen so far. He had 33 touchdowns in only 13 games last year.

Would only set a Chiefs record by three touchdowns in only 13 games in only his second season, no biggie.

The only reason I'd take Darnold over Rosen is that the concussions and his build make Rosen a worry. If it weren't for that, I'd take Rosen without blinking. I would draft Mayfield, and I'd do it in the top 5, but only after Darnold and Rosen. I wouldn't touch Allen.

That would work for getting the maximum talent available unless Dorsey really falls for Barkley. A QB,Barkley in the 1st and then a DT like Taven Bryan and an OT like Connor Williams in the 2nd. That would fill a lot of important needs for Cleveland.

I like Darnolds body language and intensity. Out of all the QBs, he's the only one that owns the snap. Some QBs walk up to the center and you can just tell they're not confident. Darnold gives an intense vibe of owning the offense kinda like Manning and Rivers. He's an intense dude. I get an "all football, all the time" vibe from him. He'll quickly make an offense his own. Doesn't hurt that he's pretty athletic too.

Rosen just makes things look so easy. He has the best NFL arm, the best instincts. He's not all that athletic, but he doesn't get pressured as much as you'd think because he feels things so well. He reminds me a lot of Brady. He just makes it look easy.

Allen has a big arm but other then that he just sux. He doesn't ever look confident. Plays tight. Runs himself out of a clean pocket into pressure. The comparisons with Locker could be valid IMO.

Mayfield reminds me of Tim Tebow but with a very accurate arm. That's not a negative comparison. Tebow could lead an offense, was tough, athletic, and smart enough, he just couldn't throw well enough. Mayfield has that same intense attitude and the same physical traits, but with a very accurate arm.

Overall I'd feel safest with Darnold. He can succeed in any offense and probably isn't gonna need great protection. Rosen has the most upside, but also needs more protection. And I'd be very happy with Mayfield. it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up the best of all 3. I wouldn't touch Allen with a 10 foot pole though.

I’m not sure where I’m at on Watson. His arm isn’t particularly strong and he’s not particularly accurate. Combine that with his frame and I’m concerned.

Thats pretty much where Id be. I like Darnolds chances in the NFL the best but you cant be sold on any of them. Most drafts dont even yield a franchise caliber QB. Out of the 4, or 5 if you count Jackson one probably pans out as a long term starter borderline franchise QB or maybe even franchise level. The others will have varying degrees of so called success, but ultimately dont pan out as long term starters.

Nah, Rosen is very Cutlarian, he has no fire in the belly for the game of football meaning winning is an option. Not a good sign that he has to be intellectually challenged at all times. And no doubt he will be very challenged at the next level then we will see if he embraces it or quits using the sour grapes excuse.

This was me a year ago, but did you see his mind blowing performance as a rookie? I love Mahomes and still feel better about his long term prospects, but Watson has set the bar high. Biggest remaining question will be staying healthy.

Watson was very good for a rookie but the talk at some point that he was in the discussion for MVP made me want to pull my hair.

Many times he chucked the ball up in the air just to get his receivers make great catches.

I do expect him to be a good QB but I think some people are misled by the stats that he had last year. He was not as good as many would think.
